Well, I managed to get this week off from work. I've been in Kentucky since Monday night, visiting Guðmar and Gígja and family; it was a bit of a last-minute thing, I bought the tickets just a week before and then I wasn't sure that I could even manage it until the day before, when I finally managed to confirm that someone would work for me

En gott að þú nældir þér í smávegis skemmtiferð : )
Gengur annars vel með þennan mann sem þú hefur talað svo fagurlega um?

I was very happy to get my holiday :) and you will have to read the next post to hear about the time spent with the man in question :)
(I had to get the dictionary out to check if I had read everything correctly, and you would have had to wait a long time if you wanted a reply in Icelandic, but I did read it fairly correctly on the first try... jeyy!)

I do like sociability as a personality trait. I want a horse that is willing to just hang out and finds that a reasonable thing to do with their time when they could be doing something else. But I don't want a pushy horse that has no respect, and I think he could become like that in certain environments. Therefore he will have to be in a herd with minimal human contact until he is old enough to train. I don't know if he'll stay where he is now, but I like the way the herd he is in now is managed (old man who knows his horses, but doesn't fuss with them). Also, when he's trained, food rewards would have to be well controlled, I believe.
*glott*

Everyone asked how Stjarni is doing, and I said he was fabulous, and told them about Ljufur. They say hello to you, too :)

Guðmar and his family have been unbelievably good to me. I paid for a tank of gas and some Coke this trip, basically, but only because I did it when no one was looking (and I left them a drawing they admired). When I left by Gylfi it was Gígja who came and picked me up, and his family who kept me until I left Iceland. It is Guðmar who taught me most of what I know about riding Icelandic horses, and my riding has improved dramatically since I started working for him. If I were to return to Louisville, it would actually be a big step in the right direction (laterally, but still in the right direction) from where I am now. This job is completely and entirely a dead end for me and my body isn't terribly happy about it, either ( ... )
