For me, Madrigal is a game of high highs and low lows. The good times are awesome and exciting and the stressful, frustrating times make you want to scream and give up

Thanks for the honest opinions. It would definitely be the largest LARP I've ever been too for sure, but it might be refreshing to see so many people at one event and be so into and invested in a game. There is no assurance that we are going to try Madrigal at this point, but it is something that we have started talking about for the future. The earliest event I think we could make would be the November of this year. I think a lot of it comes down to how we feel about Nero when we try to go back in July, and then there is the possibilities of doing something with ULTRA (though I have no idea where that is headed), and it has been nagging in the back of my mind. I briefly looked at the rule book this morning (and by brief I mean like 10-15 minutes) and I was thinking about the possibility of a Druid; and possibly a Eurvein or Shuathri (Cros). Again, mind you, I haven't looked at much other than the brief descriptions in there, but those kind of jumped out at me. So it will mean more rule book reading in my future for sure.
If you ever want to just chat character creation ideas, I'm more than happy to talk with ya and help out anyway I can. Sometimes just creating the character can be fun.
Honestly, I think you would have an absolutely terrible time at Madrigal. Think about how frustrating and upsetting it was for you to get recognized by the other PCs and noticed by plot in NERO. In Madrigal it's likely to take ten times as long. The game is huge and has been playing for years before you. There is so much information not found in the rulebook that PCs now take for fact it leads to a lot of feeling stupid for not knowing something they act like is obvious. On top of that there is also a pile of info that is tangled up in secrets kept by one PC or another. Being new in Madrigal is extremely hard. You find yourself being kept out of things because you're not in a specific group. And unlike NERO, your friends who would tend to bring you on everything are so caught up and busy with their own things that you rarely see them in a weekend

If you come into Madrigal as a new character, don't expect ANYTHING to happen for you for at least 3 years, if you're on a team, and staff at another nteraction larp. It's a good game- if you're one of the people who are already an integral part of it. In the interests of being fair, they do have people dedicated to working in new TEAMS. but if you aren't on a team, there is ZERO plot for you, individually.
I would have to counter this by saying that I have gotten plot and I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that I am "technically" a part of a team. I have done maybe two things with my team, but that only consisted of fighting on a module together.
It might be easier being on a team, however, for plot leads to find you - having a few people that know who you are and what you may be doing.
I agree with everything that's been added here, and I want to specifically echo ladymerase's mention of secret-keeping in Madrigal - it is *ridiculously* frustrating. PCs do it, NPCs do it, and there are a lot of times where all these secret things will get hinted at IG in ways that clearly say to a player that "you're out of the loop - you have no idea what's really going on, you poor sad fool." It can mess with your head so badly

I third/fourth this statement. It's so hard to wiggle your way into plot unless it's directed towards you specifically or a group you're in (not necessarily team).
I really think it depends on what you like from your larp experience. I would certainly encourage anyone to try another larp with an open mind, primarily because I think trying different larps will make for better larpers and make us generally more "well rounded" when it comes to our hobby.
Originally I was going to make a pros and cons list, but that might be too long. Lemme sumup. First let me say that I love Madrigal. I adore the staff, many of the players, and the stories that I have been able to witness and be a part of. It is now the game that I love to play. You've probably heard a lot of the pros about the game: rich world story, great game system, immersive atmosphere, good playerbase, creative staff, etc. Some of the cons you likely don't hear about a lot.
ladymerase is right about a lot of the cons of the game, although I have a slighly different view of some of her points. Secrets are a large part of Madrigal and because of the "if you know oog you can know ig" rule, a lot of people actually keep IG secrets a true secret. This is

Also having said all of that, from hearing you talk about Mirror, Mirror on Sunday it seems like you really have a full plate already with fun larp/reenactment obligations! See how you feel after the summer is over after participating in all of these events and see if you're still up for it. You might find that it's too much and a trip up north, while fun, can be draining and time consuming.
My inclination is to ask you why you were thinking of playing Madrigal. People have already addressed various good and bad things about it, but a lot depends on what it is that's interested you in the first place.
