I'm a bibliophobe so any book that holds my attention has got to be something.

If you want an exciting/juicy story, I'd recommend OUT by Kirino Natsuo (there's an English version around - it's pretty well-known). It's pretty gruesome, but I liked how realistically such themes could be portrayed.

If you're looking for something along the lines of 'good literature' that doesn't have a narcotic effect, I'd say Demian by Hermann Hesse. It's not that long either...the translation of the original German book is about 150 pages.

And by third Howl book, are you referring to Diana Wynne Jones' Howl books? I read Howl's Moving Castle and loved it (as much or perhaps more I enjoyed the movie), and I heard there was a sequel, but a third installment? Or am I completely off?

Ooooo foreign novels...thanks! I'll definitely be on the watch for those. *googles*

And there was two! books out for Howl. (I definitely preferred the novel over the movie but I loved both.) The second one is The Castle in the Air but it's not really a 'true sequel' in terms that it's got a new cast of main characters and Howl and his beautiful Sophie is only revealed toward the last few chapters....

I'm only guessing that the third book will be on their son Morgan that was introduced in the second book.

If you enjoyed 'The Curious Incident...'(Mark Haddon), I'd definitely rec 'A Spot of Bother', that's a great one ;>

'The House of the Spirits' (Isabel Allende) is one of my all-time favourites, absolutely beautiful book, I couldn't put it down! Not many people I know have heard of her but her writing's amazing ♥

Well you've gotten two Neil Gaiman recommendations already, but not Neverwhere, which is my all time favorite book. Anything by Tamora Pierce and Diana Wynne Jones is good. When you say Howl...do you mean Howl's Moving Castle? Are there...more books that I'm unaware of? Dude. Jumper is a good series, too.

Oohh Tamora Pierce. My roommate reads her books...;d Maybe there is some book snatching to be done ho hoho. When you mean Jumper...do you mean the novel the movie was based off of?

And yep! Howl's Moving Castle and the second book is The Castle in the Air. The new book coming out is titled House of Many Ways.

I can't believe that! I must get it immediately holy wow. Yeah the movie was based off a rather lengthy series.
Tamora Pierce was my first favorite author, I grew up on her. Lioness series is good, but my favorite is the Trickster series with Trickster's Choice and Trickster's Queen, but you sort of have to read the other series first to understand all the characters.
