Hm. I think it's really rare that you come across "adult" fanfiction. To me, without maintaining the integrity of the characters that I grow to love, there's no reason to bother with it. If, say, a fanfic writer managed to capture the spirit of Indiana Jones by writing a new, fully developed story, I'd give it a shot.

But the thing that sours fanfic is that you have to wade through the extremist "OMG Indy/Ermac OTP!!!11!" type of stuff before you can ever think of getting to anything good. It's just not worth bothering with, because the chances of coming across a fanfic in which the characters are treated with the same respect and cast in the same light is so small.

You know what, you can blame The X-Files for all this shipper crap. They totally started it. If Chris Carter had just let Scully and Mulder make out occasionally, none of this would have ever happened.

Gah, and ruin the sexual tension?!?!
This just reinforces the fact that ff writers are hopeless nerds who only see relationships in the most clinical of terms and have no understanding of motivation or well rounded characters.
Also that they need to get laid more, but really, who doesn't?
