You might feel the same way if you went to Dragon*Con, but yeah . . . SDCC is even more epic than D*C (and more expensive!)

I love D*C, but if your interest is in competing in masquerades, D*C's not the way to go.

Yeah, never even thought about participating in the D*C masq. Just seems so secondary (maybe even tertiary!) to the entire con-going experience at D*C.

It's definitely not run like a usual masq- the judges are usually celebrities, and they'll gong you (with stormtroopers) if you start boring the crowd. If you want to participate in an organized (and prestigious) masquerade, then D*C's not the place. I have entered the YA costume contest there and enjoyed it, but it's way more informal. I think the Star Wars track has a more organized one, but again, it's nowhere near the same experience.
