Book #19 - The Harlequin by Laurell K Hamilton

What can I say?  I love this series, and this book just grabbed me and reminded me of how much.  I enjoyed Danse Macabre, but as Jodi put it, DM was a more internalized plot, and The Harlequin a more externalized.  It nicely explained the different feels, and I think I was ready for an Old School Anita so to speak.

The basic premise involves the ( Read more... )

The next one is supposed to be the Jason one she's working on! I guess she has to do a merry Gentry before that one.

I think she's home free for the Jason book! She was smoking on that one then had to finish A Lick of Frost, so she should be able to pick it right up and start again!!

This was a great commentary. (I want to write more but every time I go to type, I pull back thinking you've already said it.) Though my actual comment about the book was that this was a more balanced plot with internal and external elements about equal in importance. The last few books have all been internal.

I do want more already. Sigh.

It was fun seeing everyone again. And Edward surprised us all; he isn't quite the one dimensional pyscho killer he started out being, is he?

Richard likes to think Nathaniel's more messed up than he is, but to me Richard's the most screwed up character in the 'core group' now. Nathaniel's actually realised he needs to work on his issues and buckled down to do what he needs to do. Richard on the other hand comes across to me as paying lip service to the idea that he needs to get more emotionally stable, without bothering to put in the effort to change.

And Nathaniel has absolutely no reason to trust Richard. He's very clearly an abusive personality, and I think Richard's got a lot more in common with Raina and Gabriel than anyone else in the series, despite his accusations to Anita of her turning into Raina.

I pretty much agree with you on the other characters from what I've heard though, and I sincerely hope Richard is outted soon.

Oh, he's definitely the weak link. How that is resolved will be interesting. And Richard changing, getting emotionally stable, is like someone who's trying to quit an addiction. NOTHING will change until he really, truly WANTS to be stable and accept who and what he is. And he is no where near that point yet. Outting may break him completely or be the final impetus towards healing.

Disagree completely on your assessment of Richard though.

Which part? That he isn't working on getting better? Or that he's an abusive personality?

I think there's canon evidence for my first assertation, but that's just me, and for the second aspect, I'm happy to agree to disagree.

The abusive personality portion. Just can't see it. I agree that he isn't working on getting better.

I don't know I was just lost reading this one...(hmmm maybe just me) Maybe I'll pick it back up and read it again. I just wasn't pleased with this book, although the parts where Anita tells Richard to basically grow up got my applause its about time that he did. I was disappointed that Asher was not "in" the book (but you know me a Asher girl)

I don't know there was jsut things about it that I didn't like, although I was glad that they finally moved past the arduer being merely lust I was grateful for that. Haven is I thin going to be interesting tho, felt sorry for Joseph but then again he deserved it. Edward is much softer now and well I agree Olaf just needs to be shot.

Maybe I'll read it again soon...might make more sense to me.
