Rented two David Lynch films from TLA today (Eraserhead and Inland Empire)(thank you Chad). Looking forward to increasing my exposure to good cinema. I think my next rentals will be Scorsese films because I kinda feel like I'm missing out on something by only having seen Gangs of New YorkToday I sent out a lot of emails that I'd been putting off. 1) raging bull
2) mean streets
3) taxi driver
4) bringing out the dead
5) goodfellas

as for other filmmakers and films, check out: wong kar wai, robert altman, georges franju, 'hard eight' by p.t. anderson (he calls it 'sydney'), 'shivers' and 'rabid' by david cronenberg (and if you have the stomach or drive afterward, 'the brood' and 'the fly'), and try to track down a copy of 'angels with dirty faces.' it's worth it.

i would suggest watching a lot more of his stuff before watching 'inland empire.' not that it'll really help, but the themes of 'inland empire' are culminations of threads of themes he has brought up continuously over the past twenty years, and i'm willing to bet it may be a bit harder to swallow or fathom without having seen much more of his stuff. let me know what you think, though.

Aw man but I rented it and I'll be damned if I spend 4.50 on a movie again!

What if I watch Eraserhead first? And I've seen Mulholland Drive...

i think it could work. i'm just saying that afterward, you'll have some homework to do :). but it's excellent, and well worth anything you put into it. it may work equally as well as a window in as a full-frame culmination...i just have not seen it without seeing others first, so i can't imagine what that would be like, really...

Wow, that's saying something. Have you seen Mulholland Drive? If so, what did you think of it?
