motivation and inspiration are both necessary. i'm sure you'll find something shiny to draw though :) keep your artist's eye out!

Of course you should draw. I don't think it's something you "grow out" of. I know plenty of 40 year olds who draw yaoi just because they can.

If you give up then you'll never be able to express it in any way you want. :(

Keep at it!

I guess it's not really a proactively giving up kinda thing, it's just kinda gone, and idk how much effort it's worth to try and get it back knowing that it's supposed to be eventually gone anyway. w I expected to grow out of it eventually just because I'm heading towards aerospace executive leadership, which is live/eat/breathe work and doesn't include artsy stuff. w

Inspiration is sort of random and hits when you least want it to, in my experience. So I wouldn't give up!! Maybe it's just sort of a mental break? I know sometimes I'm dry of ideas for months and months. Also, sometime I need to be in the right setting to conceive of ideas, like with the right people, or in a comfortable place, or the right level of exhausted. (lol)

Ya I guess so, but if inspiration only hits once a year, that's pretty close to being done with drawing anyway, heh. I haven't really done any illustrations since like September of last year (unless you count those doodles I did with the fabric paint), and these were optimal conditions for fan art, but nothing happened. D:

I think I need your innate ability to turn exhaustion into art and stress into weight loss, cuz I get a lot of that and never with good results!

There were actually a bunch of years where I really didn't do any art at all beyond doodles in margins (basically my junior year of college to halfway through my master's degree) so I guess breaks can be longer? I think it was defintely my state of mind too--I was feeling more stressed out than usual during that time and my health was at an all-time low, so I dunno, maybe getting used to your new job had more effect than you'd think? I know I didn't fully realize how out of it I was in the last years of college until later. XD;;;

I'M GAINING WEIGHT. YOU'D BE PROUD OF ME LOL (all thanks to cookie dough ice cream and mrs' field cookies from costco!!)

Work takes over a lot of your life. It does it to everyone. By the time you get home, you're probably exhausted right? This kind of reminds me of how I stopped building and designing websites. I got too frustrated with the process and didn't have time. Also I wasn't that good at it.

You, however, are truly a talented artist. You should draw when you want to so it doesn't become a chore. You do have a gift, no question about that. Maybe you should revisit a part of Crisis Core you like over again. That might help.

What really helps most with this sort of thing is not having a lot of work to do. That's not an option right now though.

My main point: Don't give up on something you're good at, but don't feel guilty about not drawing because you have other things going on right now.

If I were extremely busy I probably wouldn't have had time to realize it, but since work and life is okay right now I usually have a few hours a week to do anything I feel like. I really wanted to do some fan art, but I couldn't come up with anything. I don't think I've ever hit a block like that before. It's usually having too many things in mind and not enough time. I guess I'm just totally dry on inspiration when I've never been in the past, and it doesn't seem like something that can be obtained by trying really hard. :\

You always seem busy though :) We all run into sections of our lives where we don't have inspiration to do something. When was the last time you drew? Maybe circumstances were different then? It might come back to you. Maybe now just isn't the right time? Don't give up on it, do something else you enjoy for now to take it's place. I wouldn't sweat it too much :)

Last time inspiration hit was after I'd finished an anime series and wanted to draw a character I really liked, which is almost the same as this time except the anime obviously didn't have as amazing renderings as Crisis Core. It's kind of aggravating since I really want to draw something, but I can't think of what to draw. X3 I will probably go out looking for inspiration this time, since it's Sephy and I really can't ignore him!

As jkun said really, drawing is something you dont lose more get sidetraked from doing for a while, soon as a pencil and paper are in your hands i bet your mind will wander and you'll start drawing again :)

Time wouldnt be a issue with drawing because you can keep going back and back till you are finished with it :)

I have paper and pencil, but the paper stays blank for like 30 mins, then I give up and play FFXI. XD
