Great Great Aunt Dorothy

Well, still unemployed. *sigh* I'm going to have to be less fussy and start applying for anything. I think my degree in Tapestry makes me more unemployable than not having one. I think all those kids who left school at 16 are laughing at me and my debt. If anyone knows of anything I should go for, please let me know ( Read more... )

Did you get that pinnacle club book in the end? Hannah was meant to pass it on to you.

Yes, I did. Very interesting. Has GGA Dot being made fun of for climbing in the Alps in a purple sunhat in 1921. Her other female climbers though it was too girly.

awe.some. Glad the book was of interest too! same family era as these pics - I think Great Great Aunt is equal in generation to a great grandma? Anyway, finding out about past relatives is always fascinating and you are lucky to have yours so well documented.

My grandpa Derek's uncle, so probably. Yay we has history. I think everyone must have had an aunt Dorothy. Mine was spoken Dorothea though, for some reason. Probably cause they was posh.

Always nice to find out you had a raging feminist in the family. I'm not directly genetically related to her but I definitely have the Richards' bumpy nose as you can maybe see in this picture of Great Great Uncle Ivor.

Damn! Now she is a relative worth investigating! I'll bet she was a fun girl at the after-climbing party as well as on the way to the top!

Some of the school-leavers might laugh, more might be envious if only because they imagine that you've been fooling around. I doubt many of them would be horrified by the thought of your debts these days; chances are they'd be impressed by the terms on which you borrowed. I further doubt that many if any of them have spontaneously developed the ability to weave textiles in an aesthetically pleasing manner. ;)

In all seriousness, unemployment is not as liberating as is commonly supposed. I personally find the financial side rather easier to manage than everyone tells me ought to be but then that's a question of expectations. It's psychologically that it catches you. You can find yourself struggling to get up in the morning and not only because you didn't have to hit the sheets til late. Sometimes it really is better to do something than nothing.

Your great great aunt looks like a woman to be reckoned with.

I'm sure she was. I never met her. She died the year after I was born, but I like to think she knew of my existence. I've actually been very good at getting up and out, but it does mess with you head and emotions and such. *sigh*
