This is probably the most random entry in my LJ to date: a list of artists and actors whose work or talent I really admire.
Artists
Alfons Mucha
I'm not even sure that the father of Art Nouveau needs any introduction. He totally blew Paris away and started a new art movement that is still very popular, one hundred years onwards.
Leonardo da Vinci
Another one who doesn't need an introduction. Who doesn't know da Vinci?
Henri Matisse
Actually I didn't like the first work I saw of his. I really disliked it. But then someone explained to me how he created this work, by paper cutouts because he was too weak to paint, and my opinion of him just switched 180 degrees.
Vincent van Gogh
Another one I didn't really appreciate- until I researched him for a project for school. I don't need to list the reasons why he's awesome, do I?
Marcel Duchamp
Because he put a urinal up and called it art. Also for his Nude Descending a Staircase.
Sandro Botticelli
He's all the romantic and airy paintings you ever wanted/saw in your life.
John Everett Millais
Fucking overtalented asshole. :|
Frederic, Lord Leighton
To be honest, he doesn't have much theory going on, but he sees the world so thoroughly and with such beautiful lenses.
Jenny Saville
One of the popular artists to like. I'm not really well-versed with her work, but I really like what I've seen so far.
There's a lot other artists that I like actually, but these are my top few for now.
Actors
Marion Cotillard
I've only watched two of her films and a trailer of La Vie En Rose, but I think I'm already in love. She brings so much passion to her work.
Zac Efron
I think he's really earnest in his acting. Too bad I've yet to see him in a good movie (though everyone thinks Hairspray is good, so I guess I should get to watching that...).
Tang Wei
Okay, so the only thing I saw her in was Lust, Caution, but I think it's enough to say-- she's freaking awesome.
Donnie Yen
Fighting skills. So. Pretty.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Mysterious Skin totally convinced me; the show might have been about Bryan and Neil, but JGL stole the show.
Zhao Wei
She's always in heroine-type roles, but she plays them so well. I loved her Mulan, and how vulnerable she was when confronted with the death of her commander.
Vivian Leigh
Again, I've only seen her in one movie. Still, nobody- but nobody- forgets Scarlett O'Hara.
Ethan Ruan
I was so impressed when I watched his interviews and realized that he was everything Monk was not, and vice versa.
I'd add more, but that is too much tl;dr.
