sketch in the worst way

A random guy in Northampton tonight asked me if I wanted a ride and followed me. I knew that as long as I didn't get in a car with him he couldn't really hurt me, but it was the craziest fucking thing, trying to read the bus schedule but not being able to concentrate because he's walking right up to me, sketchy as hell, and knowing there are lots ( Read more... )

That's pretty tough. I've had guys ask me if I want rides randomly on the street, but never in as scary a way as that. If you feel like a defense course would make you feel safer, than its a good idea.

Uhm, try not to think of feminity as a target? cause that just contributes to the idea that its up to women to keep themselves from being desirable targets, when they are just by being women and its not their fault.

so how about lets just say he was a dick.

But thats damn freaky.

i am so sorry.
and then there is the other side- where someone can't offer a ride because of fear as coming off as an aggressor. it sucks to have a world where we cannot feel safe. ::hugs::

Some people just kind of need to, you know, be kicked out of civilization until they learn to keep themselves to themselves. People like that are kind of . . . if you're assertive mostly they'll go away. So you have to be loud. Like, really loud.

You should think about the self-defense course. Just basics. It can be kind of fun, actually. Also, my mom makes me carry a personal alarm on me at all times. You pull the pin out and it starts screaming, basically. Mine has a mirror, too, so I can use it to check my non-existent makeup!

Also really fucking loud. Like, seriously. I have another one that's a tiny blue egg-shaped keychain but I try not to use it as such because if the pin accidentally comes out it . . . well, you know how fire alarms are? Like that, except more shrill.

You can get them at Radioshack. My mother told me once I wasn't allowed out after dark unless I had one on my person. This was after all that rape business at UMass a few years back, if you remember that.

I remember that. Also, this fall when there were a couple assaults on campus, UMass police sent out a report that was like, "suspect was white male, 6'2"", wearing a white T-shirt and a red sox hat." oh yeah, thanks, I'll look for the guy at UMASS wearing a RED SOX HAT.
