01. So this is a game that has something to do with Nine Inch Nails?
This is a roleplay inspired by the music of NIN. While some concepts are taken from the concept album Year Zero, many other songs have influenced the game. The constant is the mood of NIN's music, and the dark atmosphere and emotion of their sounds. You do not have to know anything about NIN to play, or even like their music. It's simply inspiration.
02. Why are there no names near the reserves?
We believe that anonymity is a choice a player should be able to make. People can choose to introduce themselves, and they can choose to join based on the merits of the game, not the people who are also interested.
02. Do our characters just end up being dumped here?
No. This game is an alternate universe game. Your character is born and raised in this universe.
03. What is the setting of this game?
The major cities in this game will include Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Miami. These are hubs of activity, but characters can travel elsewhere within the United States. Freely is a very loose term, however. Government interference can be inconvenient at best, and your end at worst.
04. How can our characters communicate if they can be in all of those places?
The internet. Technology hasn't advanced immensely in some areas, but in others it has gone far. Video, voice, and text posting are all available to users. Communications may be governed, though. Be careful who you're talking to, no matter what syndicate they're in.
05. How advanced is the technology?
Genetics are easily manipulated, as are stem cell treatments. Prosthetics and robotics are very ahead of their time. Any treatment that doesn't meet the Bureau of Morality's standards will have to be accessed through the black markets, illegally. Just watch out for the doctors with unsterile conditions. The last thing you need it a STAPH infection they can track down.
06. What is the rating of this game?
This game allows for mature content, but is not an explicitly mature game. The concepts are very dark, however, and it is advised that applicants realize that they need to be able to deal maturely with such concepts. Any sexual preference is allowed.
07. What fandoms can I apply from?
Any published medium, including books, manga, anime, video games, webcomics, etc. Original characters are not allowed.
08. What should I do about my character's superpowers and/or abilities?
Tone them down to a reasonable level, and then explain them. Did they pay for them with their criminal activities? Are they the dogs of a large syndicate, improved to be more useful? Did they run afoul of a black market surgeon? Or is it a mutation from years of parepin and other chemicals in the water supply?
09. Can I apply a character that is not human?
No.
10. How many characters can I play?
You may play a maximum of four characters, with only two from the same fandom.
11. How do I write my character's application?
If you have any additional questions about the application, post a comment here and we will respond as promptly as possible.
12. Does the game have a special date/time system?
The game will start with a two-day/one-day system. Two days in real life are equivalent to twenty-four hours in real life. Once the game has been running for several weeks, we will bring this up for discussion with the players.
13. What happens if my character dies?
In a game like this, people are going to die. You can choose how that happens, and some strings may be pulled for plot purposes. A major point here is survival. You have your body, your mind; you create your own theory of survivalism. More on this to come.
14. What should I do if I have an idea for a plot?
Contact the moderators through the plot suggestion post.
15. When are applications reviewed?
Applications will be reviewed one to two times a week, until more moderators or more time becomes available.
