I loved Fame so much and embarrassingly used to wear the leg warmers over my tights to school. And you're right, there are a lot of parallels with Glee. I actually hadn't thought of that before:)

I had to wear a uniform skirt to school, so we ALL wore legwarmers. I so wanted to be Coco. :)

I can't believe it. My eyes nearly popped out of my head when I read this. My friend and I used to spend our hours outside of school talking about this show non-stop. I never missed an episode, even though it was on at weird times in my area.

And I remember that episode with Danny and his speed addiction! I was just thinking the other day about the episode where they save Jesse from deportation when they find the law that grants citizenship to those who have made great contributions in science, art, etc. lol Oh man, I loved that show. I'll have to get my hands on those DVDs.

Ha! I remember that one! And Jesse, who up until that point has been primarily a dancer, sings one song (and hot that well) and the judge is so charmed that he gives him the green card. LOL! But Jesse was no Leroy Johnson, I'll tell you that. :)

Whoa--freaky! I just got an email from the school district advertising the nearby middle school's production of: Fame.

I wonder--if it's based on the movie, there must be a LOT of changes to make it acceptable for a middle school production.

I wasn't allowed to watch Fame. Now I feel totally ripped off. :)

Maybe your parents associated it with the Irene Cara movie, which was very much rated R.

My mom, on the other hand, is completely disconnected from pop culture, so she thought that the movie was based on the TV show, not the other way around--and she rented the movie for my sister's 7th birthday party! Fortunately, she turned it off early, because there was a huge amount of cursing in the audition scenes at the beginning. If they'd gotten to the part where Coco gets scammed by a pornographer, Mom might have gotten a few angry phone calls from parents.

Yeah, I can't remember why I wasn't allowed to watch it. It could have been that it was after my bedtime - we had ridiculously strict bedtimes because we had to get up extra early since both of my parents worked early shifts. Or it could have been confusion on their part, as you mention. Or this would have coincided with their weird born-again phase when all sorts of things were not allowed.
