I have a theory...

I wonder how long it will be before "I have a theory" is no longer followed by "it could be bunnies" in my head.
Imagine a Supernatural musical! Ok, way off topic there.

I haven't sought out the various opinions about Chuck in Swan Song, so maybe someone has already said this, but I've heard one interpretation of Chuck (only one) over and over - that he was God.
Eh... maybe not exactly.
We're in the Christian mythology here. Has anybody noticed that the namesake has been missing from the story?
(It's not my intention to offend anyone's religious beliefs, BTW.)

I think it's more likely Chuck was Jesus than that he was God. Here's why:
-- He was expecting a call from Mistress Magda. Mary Magdalene was the closest woman to Jesus through his adult life. Chuck told Dean Mistress Magda was a close friend. Dean assumed she was a hooker (or maybe phone sex worker). This was also implied by an ad next to Chuck's computer that may have been an adult entertainment type thing. Mary Magdalene has been regarded as a repentant prostitute (although that interpretation has been disputed). The term "Mistress" can be a polite form of address used for a respected woman.
-- Dean said to Chuck, "You've really got a whole virgin/hooker thing going on, don't cha?" Possibly a reference to virgin birth (translated through Dean's mindset)?
-- The bible specifically mentions Jesus wearing white.
-- The Second Coming of Christ is associated with the Apocalypse (in some parts of the Bible).
-- Dean asks Chuck what's going to happen next. Chuck says, "I wish that I did, but I honestly don't know yet." So Chuck's not omniscient. Whereas most denominations believe God to be omniscient, there's debate about whether Jesus was. He did know some things in advance, but there were some things he didn't know. There are many cases of him asking people questions, for example. The main evidence given by people who debate this is that Jesus specifically said he didn't know when he would return, but that God did know (paraphrasing Mark 13:32).

I don't think this is the most important aspect of the episode, it's just my response to repeatedly hearing that Chuck is, or might be, God. I'm not disregarding the Holy Trinity, by which it might be argued that saying Chuck is Jesus is the same as saying he's God. Under that belief system, Jesus and God are two persons and also a single being. So let's call that a semantic gray area in which my use of terms refers to the two persons aspect. (I won't go into my theory about Becky as the Holy Spirit. You're welcome. ;)

I'm much more interested in why a red street lamp flickered out when Sam(?) showed up at the end!
