Hello ladies, members of the all-knowing flist! I have a few questions! I have a very good friend who is likely moving to London this fall for a semester of uni, and she'd like some advice on various things from whomever lives/has lived in that venerable city. She'll be going to University College London, and right now is considering housing. ( Read more... )

I was at UCL for a semester in London during law school and loved it - I was in one of the dorms and it was... student housing. Everything worked and was clean. :) My flatmates were awesome. I'm fairly certain my tube stop was Russell Square - King's Cross wasn't far either. I ended up walking maybe a mile from home to school, past the Tube?

Thanks so much! I'll be sure to tell her. Would you be willing to answer questions again in future?

As far as transport goes, unless there's a strike, its pretty good. Everyone complains but people complain about everything, I rely on the tube and buses to get places and I've never had too much trouble.
If she's not to close to campus then try to be near a train or bus route that goes right there, changing can be a nightmare! Especially if you dont like crowds or enclosed spaces...
But London does rule in general, places to go and shopping and the river and the parks (ok so I need to go to Central London soon, I think i'm in withdrawal), good luck to her! I'm sure she'll love it :
