I'm very thankful for my wife. I think it is a very rare thing to find someone who you can have argument with and come out of it a better person than you went in. Even when she's upset with something I've done, she's always reasonably calm and is damned good at pointing out stupid things I've done without making me feel like too much of a douche

I don’t know about always being reasonably calm. As you quite correctly pointed out, text is NOT our medium to have any kind of serious discussion and I freely admit I’m probably the worst of the two of us on that score. You are never a douche, thankfully, even though you might feel like one at times (I know I do), you can just lack the finer points of common sense on occasion. I challenge you to find any human being who isn’t guilty of that at times
