I figured I'd reply here as more people would read it. You required evidence, that's fine I can give you lectures. The Teaching Company- who gathers the best professors in every field and then produces lecture series on them- in it's famous Greek Series, discusses that play specifically, and with it give the pronouncement I gave you. It's a farce about how silly pacifism is.

Though your director's position makes sense- there is a play that seems in amodern context to be feminist, but in an actual context is not- I'm sure she isn't a classics major, so her knowledge of the subject wouldn't be as strong as the leading proffessor in the field.

But honestly, women weren't even citizen's in ancient Greece, and the ancient greek's fought for power and honor all the time. Why would wone of the greatest plays of the time be about feminist peace?
