Hello everyone and Happy Mother's Day! I hope everyone's weekend has been great and that everyone is getting to spend time with their families

Happy Mother's Day to you too!!! Hopefully things will settle quietly.. but you may be right. Some authors may jump on this "band-wagon" and the world of fanfiction may be a thing of the past (although knowing some people they will find of way to keep writing without getting caught!!) I really hope this doesn't happen! I enjoy reading fanfiction.. it is a nice escape from the "real world". It is a shame that someone had to "spoil" it for everyone and not respect the world George Lucas created. In my opinion, this person is not a "true fan"... this is someone who was out to make a quick buck. Like I said before, I hope this settles quietly and doesn't affect others who do respect authors like JK Rowling and the work she has done.
I'm hoping it will blow over, and more than likely as long as it's kept quiet and the authors who simply become livid over fanfiction concerning their stories will not get involved.
You are definitely right as far as saying that many authors actively encourage fanfiction. Joss Whedon is another one(Buffy the Vampire Slayer author) actually challenges his fans to write it and Mercedes Lackey has actually encouraged it as well. J.K. Rowling is supposedly all right as long as any mature stories are kept from children and I do remember what you're saying as far as Star Trek and such. Oh, I'm just hoping this doesn't get out of hand. Did this woman honestly expect to be able to sell her story and not be called down for it by fans and George Lucas himself?
Anyway, hows your stories coming along? I can't wait for new chapters of each!
That is seriously sad, i hope that it doesn't actually happen, the whole copyright law. I mean as long as you aren't in anyway profiting financially from it, writing fanfiction should really be ok. In fact its more of a way of increasing your fandom, according to me. I know for a fact that some of the hp fans have never read the book, only watched the movie and read fanfics...so i hope this doesn't can't carry out
( ... )
I agree that writing fanfiction is technically illegal if the writer and publishers wanted to pursue it, but as long as writers aren't against it there's usually no problem.
The thing with this book is the writer didn't even really have her own plot. It's supposedly close to verbatim with A New Hope Episode IV. She just has Ryoo Naberrie(Padme's sister's child) aboard the Death Star helping Leia and Han and the gang make it to Alderaan before it gets snuffed out. So,hmm, makes me question her intelligence even more.
That aside maybe this won't get blown out of proportion and hopefully the authors who don't care for fanfiction don't get involved.
I bet your mother will understand about exams and all concerning Mother's Day. I used to almost forget all of the time before I met my husband and for some reason the more mothers I have to remember the easier it is for me.lol Strange really.
Will probably be posting a couple of one-shots soon just for Flist and if they get a good response then if you would so kindly beta them I would appreciate it.
BTW, I think I should friend you if you don't mind?
I have absolutely no problem with you friending me. I also can't wait to start being your beta because honestly my summer is terribly BORING... Send over the stories when you're finished.
