I had to start making sunscreen part of my daily habit, as well, although for not nearly as scary a reason! Over the earlier part of this year, it seemed I somehow managed to develop a reaction to sunlight. I do okay as long as I have high SPF sunscreen on, but without it I get hives on skin that is exposed for more than about a half hour. You can imagine, considering all the driving I do, how important it became to make it part of my morning routine. Of course, I have an immediate reminder of my stupidity when I forget about it that lasts for days, while your liability is much more insidious and sneaky.
Find a place for hat in what you do. You have to remember to take that beret or cap on and off, whenever in uniform and walking in and out of buildings. Sure, a wide brimmed hat doesn't fit in one's pocket nearly as easily, but I suspect that with a bit of conscious habit training, you can get to where putting on sunscreen daily, and donning and doffing a wide brimmed hat becomes second nature. *hugs* Hang in there.
