I got asked the other night to be a god parent.

I have never even thought about this before. The prospect of having my own kid seemed unlikely and thats just something you accept. I think being a godfather might be more fun anyways. I get to teach the child things like why fighting is not wrong and how to win. I have fantasies of teaching the baby to throw a left hook before it can walk. ( Read more... )

I don't know what it is like over there in the States but in Australia being a Godfather tends to be more symbolic than anything. You aren't really expected to be involved with educating the child. Its more of a gesture of friendship between the parents and yourself. Still perhaps you can sneak in the teaching of a left hook somewhere ; )

I am a person who takes responsibilities seriously. These friends know this or if they don't are going to find out. I will consider myself a protector and guild to the child. Obviously not a parent but an influence. Hopefully I don't get carried away.

Its Tubbs who you met and his French girlfriend btw.

I think they were already dating when you met us in Paris. They actually met on nerve.com personals. She was already living in NYC working in science. Now it sounds like she has a new job that should allow her to telecommute and potentially live anywhere.

I don't know. I tend to have a very "Just do it" attitude and I certainly don't want to step on any toes. I figure I will just be the cool godfather that takes the kid to martial arts class and Kilimanjaro.
