Many wrongs sometimes make a right.

Tonight I tried something new. I studied in bed. While watching a marathon of The L Word (which I'm of course hopelessly addicted to because of teh drama!!1!, despite the fact that it's a pretty awful show a lot of the time). With the lights down low. With a purring cat beside me on my course manual ( Read more... )

I am the same way - I find it easier to focus in coffee shops or places where there's more "white noise" going on vs. at home where it's quieter.

Yeah, totally. And I think sometimes I find the very fact that I'm uncomfortable, bored and chained to a desk ends up being more distracting than the other things people tell you to avoid :D

I can't recommend radiolab podcasts enough. They make science super interesting and hilarious, and they did one on phantom limbs!

I have always read snippets of self help study books, or articles about procrastination, and any other study help material that has floated past my nose during my school days. One thing that many of them say is to stop associating doing homework with ... uh, how do I explain this. With WORK. With HAVE to. With NEED to.

When I decided to be a pilot and was working at UBC and living with you in kits, I would really look forward to sitting at our table with my books and my paper and a pen. I know some of that can be explained as I was just super excited about it all, but I tried to look forward to it just being me, books, learning, quiet time.

I also love, LOVE flipping back through my notes at the end of a study session and thinking 2 things: 1. WOW there are 25 pages of double sided notes here. I ROCK! and 2. It's funny because I won't look at these, because I know all this stuff now from the act of transcribing it... wow, I KNOW this stuff!! COOL!! I ROCK AGAIN!

I'm a finished product satisfaction lover...

Heh heh, what i forgot to say in that other post is if you work really well while watching tv and cuddling with your cats, DO IT!! And I bet you will find you look forward to that time, not just because of the studying, but because of the time spent with your kitties, catching up on your show, as well as feeling like you got stuff done... xoxo
