Yeah I watched a friend buy a pair of cute purple gumboots for 75 dollars! She asked me what I thought and I told her straight up that they were ridiculously over priced... I mean, aren't gumboots supposed to be 10 bucks?
As to expensive leather boots, they are worth every penny. A year ago I got a pair of Fluevog Bondgirls for $450 (my parents paid for half as an early Christmas present) and they are amazing! I can stand/walk in them for 10+ hrs every day and my feet don't hurt, they are warm and I've never thought for a second about leaking. I think its worth it to spend the money on foot wear, I don't expect to have to buy another pair of boots for many years... Which is not to say I won't buy another pair purely because they are so damn good looking!! ;)
Totally! I get that cute ones are going to cost more than the class black&rust coloured ones of our youth... but $150? WTF? Crazypants. $50 gumboots would be too expensive.
Then again, I guess a bit part of "value" is also how much we love the things we buy, how much use we get out of them, and how we feel in them... but still, dude.
I'm with you on the quality footwear. I don't expect to ever become the kind of person who buys expensive clothing as a general rule, but if my student loan was paid off I'd buy a pair of Fryes lickity-split. (Especially because they have proper boot soles that can be built up, as opposed to rubber soles.) We spend so much time on our feet and it affects our health so much more than we realize.
Also, personally? Synthetic leather makes my feet smell bad like whoa. Which totally doesn't happen with leather shoes, running shoes, or cotton shoes (i.e. keds). Only synthetic leather or shoes with a lot of synthetic lining inside.
Yeah, I was looking for a pair of gumboots for my best friend's wedding (in a pumpkin patch), and I was like, "AH, HERE ARE SOME!" I nearly fainted when I saw the price.
I got a pair of Cougar gumboots for $25. And they're a lovely, fun shade of green.
I bought a pair of bright red ones at the Richmond night market a few years ago for $20, but i stupidly bought them a bit too small and ended up giving them away.'I should go back and see if I can find another pair.
