this [Background]
Born into a high class noble Fire Nation family, Ty Lee had always had a privileged life. She was sent to school at the Royal Fire Academy for Girls and there met Princess Azula and Mai. Of course, home life wasn't easy for her. Ty Lee had six other sisters who were all identical to her, making attention a difficult thing to hold in her household. Acrobatics always came as a bit of an ease to Ty Lee and this probably gave her the idea that she could use this to step away from the 'set' that she had been born into. Needless to say, this probably wasn't something that her parents were pleased to hear. After all, how well would a high class noble take the news that his/daughter ran away to join the circus? Not very well, I'd imagine. Despite running away, Ty Lee felt truly content and happy at the circus where she could be the center of attention and not feel invisible. As she had described to Azula, 'her aura had never been pinker'!
Backtracking a little though, Mai, Azula, Ty Lee and Zuko were childhood friends growing up together. Even as children, Azula still bullied and bossed around Ty Lee, even to the point where she would push her for being better at certain things than her (ie: cartwheels) and laughing at her afterwards. Ty Lee wasn't afraid of Azula then, and although she was clearly offended, she was quick to join in humiliating Zuko and Mai, commenting how they made a cute couple.
Fast forwarding now, we come to the start of Azula's quest to search out her brother Zuko who had betrayed the Fire Nation. Ty Lee initially declined joining at first, saying that she was very happy at the circus and had no intention of leaving no matter what. Azula however informs her that she will be attending her show that very night and Ty Lee looks almost sick at that, but express how great that will be. Unfortunately, that night while Ty Lee is performing on the tight rope, Azula makes the ringleader set the net below on fire and makes him release all the dangerous animals so that Ty Lee's life is basically in danger. Later after the show, Ty Lee says that there will be no more show tomorrow because she hints that the 'universe is giving me strong hints that it's time for a career change'. Mai also touches on the fact that about why she left the circus when she had so strongly believed before that it was her calling. Ty Lee hints that, 'Azula called a little louder'.
Before heading out to find Zuko, however, Mai's little brother Tom Tom accidentally gets kidnapped in Omashu. During the negotitation process, Mai calls it off on Azula's orders and this is the first time we see Ty Lee's Chi blocking skills. Ty Lee manages to take out Katara's water bending abilities but before they manage to capture Aaang and his crew, they manage to get away. Ty Lee doesn't seem too discourage by this because by the time the girls are ready to leave Omashu, she's teasing Mai about Zuko just like when they were children.
Team Azula seems to do a pretty good job of following Aanga, Sokka, Katara and Toph. With the Avatar in Azula's sight it seems that the plan to track down Zuko has taken a bit of a backseat. When Sokka and Katara split off, Ty Lee and Mai are sent off after them. This time the two easily overtake the siblings, their lack of sleep contributing to that greatly. Ty Lee takes out three of Sokka's limbs leaving him a stumbling mess, but not before his skull hits her and she recoils in pain. Unfortunately for Ty Lee and Mai, Appa blows them across the river before they can do anything else to Katara and Sokka. Once the girls surface, Ty Lee expresses how Sokka was kind of cute. And thus, Ty Lee's little crush on Sokka is born.
The next time we see Ty Lee is when she is overseeing a large drill made by the Fire bation that is trying to break down the wall of Ba Sing Se. Since the war started, the Fire nation had been trying to take over the great Earth city but had been unable to because of the massive wall that surrounded it. This time it seemed that this drill was their answer in. When an elite group of earthbenders are sent out to try stop the drill, Azula orders Ty Lee and Mai out to take care of them. Ty Lee takes out a whole group of them by disabling not only their bending but also their mobility without getting a single scratch on her body either. When the group finds Sokka, Aang and Katara trying to sabatoge the drill from the inside, Ty Lee greets them, singling out Sokka specifically with a flirty look and he in return greets her with an embarassed hello. This little interaction doesn't last long however, and Azula sends Mai and Ty Lee after them again. Their chase leads them to a slurry pipe and while Mai flat out refuses to go down it, Ty Lee reminds her that Azula will be 'really angry' if they don't go after them. Even that doesn't seem to sway Mai and Ty Lee jumps into the slurry pipe after them.
On the outside, however, Katara and Toph bend water and earth to block the slurry pipe, stopping Ty Lee from reaching them and contributing to the destruction of the drill. During this time, Katara also manages to insult Ty Lee, calling her a 'circus freak'. After the drill is destroyed, Ty Lee is launched out of the pipe and lands into a rock platform, disgusted but unharmed.
Ty Lee and the girls presumably take some time to recalculate their plans, and the next time we see them is when they're fighting against the Kyoshi warriors. It is presumed that the girls manage to defeat the Kyoshi warriors, or at least do enough damage for them to flee before stealing three sets of their clothing and disguising themselves to gain entry into Ba Sing Se. Once the Avatar leaves the city, Azula manages to organize an overthrow of the government from their new position inside, and also learns that Zuko and her uncle are currently inside the walled city. Ty Lee is then seen trying to teach the Earth king's pet bear, Bosco, how to do a handstand when Toph comes in and binds her limbs to the ground with her earth bending.
At the end of the fall of Ba Sing Se, Azula manages to convince Zuko to come back with her to the Fire nation where she claims that his honor will be restored, especially since Aang was supposedly dead. Zuko does return, although reluctantly and obviously in doubt about whether or not Aang was actually dead.
The group are then sent off some time after to Ember island while Lord Ozai discusses political issues. On their first arrival there, they are greeted by Lo and Li, the Fire nations ancient advisors, and are informed that they will be staying in their beach home. When they first step onto the beach, Ty Lee is greeted by a boy who asks her if she needs help unpacking. Being her usual, cheerful self, Ty Lee agrees and soon asks him to stand in the way of the sun that is blinding her. Not long after that, another boy finds a shell to give to her. She ends up being surrounded by a whole multitude of admirers before long. When Azula catches sight of something to do, she rounds up Zuko, Mai and Ty Lee to go play a little beach volleyball. During the ball match, Ty Lee catches the attention of Chan and Ruon-Jian, two boys who invite she and Ty Lee, and Azula and Zuko (although the invitiation was more hesitant) to a party they're holding that night.
During the party, Ty Lee finds herself surrounded by many of her admirers and is forced to paraylze them with a chi blocking move to escape the crowd. When Azula notices this, she calls Ty Lee a tease and goes onto tell her that they don't really care about her at all. Upon hearing this, Ty Lee bursts out into tears causing Azula to show a surprising amount of sympathy; she apologizes quickly and explains that she said those things because maybe, just maybe, she was a little bit jealous of her. Ty Lee stops crying when she hears this and is shocked at this and Azula asks her how she can get boys to like her like they like Ty Lee. She goes on to tell Azula that boys feel intimidated by her and tells her to laugh and smile at anything boys say even if it isn't funny. The group gets kicked out later by the boys and they all go down to the beach together.
When they arrive at the beach, all sorts of confessions start spewing out of the friends. Zuko calls Ty Lee a circus freak, and Ty Lee retorts quite angrily that circus is a compliment. She goes to confess, tearfully, that growing up she had six other siblings who looked exactly like her. The reason she left home was so she could be different and that she hated the idea of a set no matter what it may be. Mai then comments maybe the reason she wants so much attention is because of the lack of attention she got growing up as a child. She goes on to say that maybe that's why she feels the need to have ten boyfriends. As the night goes on, each of them confesses their feelings and secrets making any sort of heavy cloud surrounding them lifts. Ty Lee comments that she will remember this night forever and that Lo and Li were right about the beach's ability to reveal a person's true self. To celebrate their strengthed friendships, Azula decides that the best way to end the night is a little destruction.
They head back to Chan's house and trash the place leaving it a mess. New memories are formed that night and the four's friendships are stronger than ever.
[Personality]
The most important thing that anyone has to know about Ty Lee, is the fact that she craves attention although it is never verbally viewed except when she confessed the reason for her running away to the circus. She did come from a family that had six other siblings who looked exactly like her, and it probably was hard to get any true attention from her parents. This led her to really utilize her acrobatic skills, something that she excelled at and made her more or less run away to the circus. Despite this being something that may have been an act of indivisualism, Ty Lee really did adore acrobatics and being at the circus was like the home life she had always wanted - being there made her aura 'pinker than ever' as she had described it. The people at the circus made her feel like home and as a result, Ty Lee more or less adopted them as her idea of family no matter how mismatched or odd they were. She's very loyal to them and would do anything for them as a result. Ty Lee is also a very light hearted, bubbly, outgoing person whose personality seems to match that of the circus' atmosphere.
These attention issues are also touched upon at the Ember island. Mai mentions that because of her lack of attention during her childhood, Ty Lee is making up for it now by needing ten boyfriends. While it is very true that Ty has a flirty nature, it isn't completely clear whether or not she actually in fact does have ten boyfriends.
She does get along with the majority of people she meets, but once you make a friend of Ty Lee, her loyalty won't waver. (Unless you're Azula but we'll get to that later). Despite her obvious personalty differences with Mai, she has a great respect for the girl and probably thinks of her as her best friend, even though Mai may not think so as well. While she did see Azula as a friend when they were younger, as they grew up, that friendship and respect turned into fear. She did refuse at first to take part in Azula's plan to go after Zuko, but once Azula threatened her life during her performance, she quickly changed her mind and since then had never disobeyed her orders.
Ty Lee doesn't hold grudges against people - it's just not her thing. Once it's over, it's over and it is basically like a blank slate with her. As of late though, her sunny disposition is a little be clouded. She's coming from a point in her canon where she's just betrayed, not only her ex-bestfriend but also the Princess of her nation. While Ty Lee knows her action is justified and she doesn't regret it because she saved Mai, she's still upset and concerned about the outcome of not only her fate but Mai's as well. She cares very much for people that she shares close bonds with and as a result can't help but be a little worried right now about Mai's condition.
[Specialties/Abilities]
Ty Lee is an amazing acrobat and performer - this anyone could tell right off the bat from meeting her. From a young age she excelled at cartwheels and somersaults with ease, something that Azula wasn't great at. During her time at the circus, Ty Lee is often seen performing the high wire act making her very agile and fast in battle. Her acrobatic skills also aid her in making sure that its hard to catch her in battle. In addition to being agile, Ty Lee is also very flexible. She can contort and shape her body to cringe-worthy positions and enjoys walking on her hands whenever she gets the chance. Ty Lee is also capable of scaling buildings and get into small spaces that not many other people normally would be able to do.
Besides her great love for acrobatics, Ty Lee is also a master of pressure points making her a deadly opponent to face in a fight. She has the ability to pinpoint chi points and this has a number of numerous effects on those she inflicts it upon. One hit from her chi-blocking ability can render muscles useless or even blocking a Bender from using their bending abilities. Ty Lee has control of how much damage is done to her opponents as well. It is shown that when she first fights Katara, that while her bending abilities are disabled, she is still able to move. There is also a point when she fights the Terra warriors where they are barely able to move and had felt extreme pain afterwards. We can only assume that if given the choice, Ty Lee could potentially kill people if she wanted. This is unlikely to happen though because of her kind-hearted personality.
[Affection] Ty Lee is a very touchy person. She loves hugging but any kisses may result in a paralyzation via chi blocking unless she really likes you. Just saying.
[Fighting] Hell yes this girl can fight. I ususally prefer if you ping me before mauling my characters though xD
[Other Facts] I'll fill it out when I think of something lmao B|a
