Being sent off to boarding school was how Ty Lee's parents planned to ween their little girl from her horrible habit of being facinated with anything that involved the circus. She didn't see it that way though. In Ty Lee's eyes this was a bit of a blessing. Attention from her parents was hard to gain and she had been the only of her sisters that had been sent to the prestigious school, so that meant bounds and leaps for Ty Lee in terms of the attention department.
"I'm going to be the best student here, you'll see, Mama!" A younger version of Ty Lee chirped as she jumped gracefully down from the carrier. Her mother, a tall, regal woman gently disembarked herself and anyone but the little girl could see the strained smile on her face.
"I'm sure you will too. That's what your father and I are aiming for after all."
"I'll make plently of friends too~ Oh! Do you think they can come over during the school breaks? Our house is huge, we could have them over couldn't we?" Ty Lee was practically bursting to explore the large looming building before her. Other families were arriving and were bidding their farewells to their daughters with affectionate hugs and kisses yet Ty Lee's own mother stood a few feet away, only resting her hand lightly on top of her daughter's head.
"We'll see, darling." But before her mother could say anything more, Ty Lee began cartwheeling before bumping into another girl.
"Ow. Watch where you're going," the girl replied sourly in a blunt tone as Ty Lee's mother ran after her.
"Oh, I'm sorry! I'm Ty Lee!" the girl replied cheerfully coming face to face with what looked like a younger version of Mai.
"Right."
Her mother soon caught up and grabbed Ty Lee by the arm forcefully.
"What did I tell you about doing that in public? It isn't a place for it!" The girl didn't seem to pay attention to her mother though and tugged on her mother's hand with her free hand.
"I made a new friend alreday though, Mama! See? I told you people would pay attention to me if I used those tumbling skills." Her mother only gave her a tired look and was about to reply when the bell rang, signalling that the girls should head towards the main hall of orientation.
"We'll speak later. Don't cause any trouble and for god sake, listen to what your teachers have to say, won't you?" And with that her mother let go of Ty Lee even though her little girl had reached out for a hug. Ty Lee stayed there, her arms stretched out, the stone faced girl behind her staring at her. She unfolded her arms and let out a sigh tapping Ty Lee on the shoulder causing her to turn.
"You really are dense."
"What do you mean?" The girl gave her a blank stare and motioned to the small figure of her mother. "Oh! Mama is just really busy, that's all. She sometimes forgets to hug me, that's all." All that greeted her was another blank stare but the girl let out a sigh and spoke after a moments though.
"I'm Mai." Ty Lee's face turned from sad to happy in a second as she giggled and hugged the girl.
"We're going to be great friend's Mai! I can just feel it~"
