Who: Sam and Lou
What: Lou and Sam share a brief phone call. Lou delivers Sam some news.
Where: Lou and Sam's houses
When: July 10 - evening
Having completed his chores for the day, Sam elected to make for the driveway to shoot some hoops. One step into his journey, he realized his mistake: Sam’s ankle was still in need of healing. “Okay…maybe I should take it easy today…” Sam thought out loud. Having endured this injury before, he figured he would only need about 2 more days of relative inactivity to completely overcome this seemingly never-ending injury.
Sam didn’t need to brainstorm to decide on his plan B. The folk music would decide for him. “Let’s see…this song means that…OH! It’s Lou!”
Sam sang the lyrics of the song as he rushed to answer his cell phone. He was pleased by his choice of ring tone for Lou’s incoming calls. After all, it’s because of Lou that Sam became interested in the folk music genre. Despite wanting to hear more of the song, Sam picked up his phone, excited to hear from Lou, yet, at the same time, a tad bit worried that Lou’s pressing news would be of the negative variety.
“Hello? Lou?”
Lou had just ridden his bike back home from his job at a Subway three miles away and this caused him to be tired and drenched in sweat from Chattanooga's summer evening heat. Since it was already later than he said he'd call his friend Sam, and because he was eager to go to a party later, Lou had called immediately after arriving. Therefore, he could barely mask his heavy breathing as he responded.
"Hi, Sam! Sorry I'm calling later than I said I would. If you're busy now, I can easily get back to you back in a few hours."
Upon second thought, Lou honestly didn't mind the idea of skipping the party to stay at home and read until Lou was free to talk. There will be other parties, but Lou knew this conversation would be both important and exciting for the two American Chosen Children.
Sam wasn't really expecting Lou to call tonight. Lou had a bad habit of...forgetting things. However, it never really affected Sam too much; because of his passive personality, Sam would never "call out" his good friend for such behavior. He would just wait until Lou remembered.
To be honest, Sam sometimes wondered how he came to be such friends with Lou. At times, the two of them possessed what could only be described as...contradicting personalities. Had it not been for the events in New York, he probably would have never made friends with a person like Lou. Yet, Lou was the only Chosen that had managed to keep up with Sam since those events.
"That's fine, Lou. I've done all of my chores and whatnot. I don't mean to be rude, but since you seem so eager to get the news to me, I feel like we need to cut to the chase. What's up?"
Slightly concerned, and perhaps even amused, with Sam's straightforwardness, Lou thought it best not to hesitate with his awesome piece of information.
"Sorry for all the suspense, but there isn't really anything to worry about. I just wanted to hear your excitement when you heard that we're, apparently, going to college in the same city."
Though Lou independently decided to attend Boston College, returning to his childhood home, he became far more enthusiastic after hearing that Sam was also going to be in Boston. He would finally be able to regularly interact with a close friend. On top of that, he would have more excuses to return to the Digital World.
"Wow...umm...so...well...okay. That's great!"
Sam definitely did not expect news of this variety. Though I guess it should not have surprised him. He knew that, in his previous life, Lou's family lived in Boston, and that going back might have been a possibility.
Given how Lou worded his statement, Sam assumed that Lou was not going to school with him. Sam let some words roll around in his head before he chose to continue.
"I guess you're not going to Northeastern? And what about Kamemon? Do you have any plans for him? Gosh, now that I think about it, Boston in an awfully large place; I hope Kamemon and Solarmon can survive in such an environment without us around all the time..."
Lou knew that having Kamemon around might be problematic depending on who his roommate was. However, he forgot to take into account how his Digimon might feel about it.
"Well, I'm going to Boston College. It isn't incredibly close, but we'll definitely be able to see each other a lot. As for Kamemon and Solarmon, I hope they can adjust to life in dorm rooms and city parks, unless you have a better plan. If not, we'll probably have to make frequent trips to the Digital World in order to keep our digital friends happy. I doubt that any of us could have a problem with that."
Frequent trips to the Digital World both excited and frightened Sam, but he thought it best to only express the former feeling.
"I guess it would be best for us get together and discuss this with both of them at the same time. I like your idea, though; going to the Digital World will allow us to see the international Chosen more often."
Too many things were running through Sam's mind. Having Lou around would definitely make for a better college experience. A while ago, Sam came to realize that Lou brought out a more...social version of Sam Cameron. The nervousness seemed to go away, and Sam always thought that, while the introvertedness is a part of his personality, it definitely becomes a nuisance when he's around new people. And he knew that, soon enough, he'd be in that situation often.
"Let me know when you make it to Boston. We need to catch up as soon as possible. Do you have any more news?"
Lou, while being very popular and charismatic, was still quite lonely. Not only would Sam's future proximity solve this problem, but together they'd have more excuses to go to the Digital World and meet new, closer friends.
"Kamemon and I have been writing a few songs lately. We'll probably make a rough recording of the songs sometime soon. I'll send them to you later because I'd really like to hear your opinion."
At this point, Lou heard a knock at his window. Patrick, a friend of his from high school, was waving at him. Lou held up his index finger indicating that he needed a minute to get off the phone.
"Damn... Sorry Lou, but I'm going to have to talk to you some other time. But we definitely do need to do more catching up later. Digital World, maybe? Either way, we'll do plenty of catching up this fall!"
"Yeah, Lou. Sure. I'm not one to criticize, though. So expect me to just say that I like whatever you send my way...but I probably won't be lying."
If Sam and Lou had one thing in common, it was their taste in music...
Somewhat expected, Lou cut their conversation short. Please that he managed to hold Lou down for this long, Sam bid him farewell.
"The Digital World sounds like a great idea! With minimum coercion, I'm sure I can get others to join us, as well. Thanks for calling, Lou. See you later!"
After exchanging goodbyes, Sam closed his phone. Eager to deliver the news to Solarmon, Sam stumbled (fortunately, without reinjuring his bad ankle) in his direction.
"Hey Solarmon! I've got some great news..."
