"A sandwich is a terrible thing to waste!" A Digimon's voice came from behind Sam and Solarmon. Kamemon ran up and handed them each a sandwich. "You can thank Lou for these. He stayed late at work in order to make them." Kamemon turned around and looked for Lou, but didn't see him back in the trees. "Lou insisted that I hurry ahead in case y'all were hungry. He shouldn't be too long."

A half mile back, Lou was sitting next to a rock, writing on his notepad.

Why do these people matter to me? It's as if I need to extract meaning from every social interaction. Can I not extract the same meaning by myself? Like Sam mentioned the other day, friendship makes one dependent. How do I know who I really am if I rely on other people's subjectivity for my own identity?
I like these people. As long as they're around, I should be too.

Lou stood up, put his notepad back in his pocket, and proceeded to meet up with the others.

Hikari hated being late, but some days, it just seemed inevitable. Her mother had stopped her again, wanting to know where she was rushing off to and then she tried to get Hikari to let her make snacks for her friends.

Suffice it to say, Hikari waited until her mum was distracted, dashed to her room, grabbed her things and taken off. There would be no more victims of her mum's awful cooking under her watch! No way!

"That was a close one..." Hikari said with a nervous laugh, casting a sheepish grin at Tailmon before she jogged towards the meeting place. She was the one who'd invited people, it was awful she was the one who would be arriving late!

Once she saw people and Digimon come into view, she raised one of her hands up, while the other held on to Tailmon, and called out to them, "Hey! Sorry to keep you guys waiting!"

Pleased that everyone had arrived, Sam looked at the bag in Lou's hand. Well aware of its contents, Sam made a move for his meal.

"I'll take this off your hands..." Sam reached for his sub and turned to Hikari. "Oh...where are my manners? Ladies first! And besides, you're kind of the reason we're all here. It's only fair!"

Solarmon could hold back no longer. "Good thing you guys got here!" Sounding as sarcastically melodramatic as ever, Solarmon poked fun at Sam: "I'm sure Sam and I would have been eaten by the nearest peril had you guys shown up any later!"

"Most of the peril seems to be in the real world. If anything, we're safer here," Lou responded, nonchalantly biting into his sandwich.

Kamemon, looking up from his mess of a sandwich, added, "And in the real world, y'all usually don't have us Digimon partners to help out. Here, you have no reason to hide us." Again Kamemon proceeded to stuff his face, not adhering to the standard sandwich eating techniques.

"Since everyone is fine with me taking the camera, I know the perfect place to take some pictures!" In a quick burst of energy, Lou ran toward Kamemon, grabbed him by the arm, and continued to run in the direction from which he came before he met up with his friends. "I'll be back soon! Good luck taking a better picture than mine!"

Though he actually did know a place to take a stunning picture, he wasn't very good with photography himself. If either Hikari or Sam knew this, they might be able to pick up on his ulterior motive for disappearing so quickly, but it was apparent to Lou that he hadn't had many conversations about photography with them. Despite the obvious worry he detected in Sam, Lou was confident that he'd be able to handle the loss of one team member.

"L-Lou!" Hikari stammered, clearly surprised as she watched their friend take off ahead of them. She wasn't entirely sure where he was intending to do, but she chuckled slightly and shook her head. Boys could be so confusing still, she thought in amusement as she turned to grin over at Sam.

"I guess it's just us for now." she said lightly, getting to her feet and heading over to him, camera in hand. "Have you ever used a Digital SLR? I'll teach ya, if you want and then we can wander around a bit. The Digital World is a lot of fun most of the time."

She just hoped that Lou and Kamemon would be okay by themselves.

Sam let out a long sigh as he watched Lou disappear in the distance. Returning his focus to Hikari, he thought about his previous experiences with photography. "I can't say I have ever used one of these. You're the pro, so I'll just tag along. And maybe Lou will eventually return. Can't say I know what he's up to..."

Sam thought Lou to be slightly crazy. He would never run off with Solarmon alone in the Digital World. Especially with one of Hikari's cameras.
