My incredible experience similar to "dirty dancing", the movie!!!
This night was so amazingly awesome! I can't even describe how much fun it was...my mom, my sister, my friend,Genny, myself, and my mom's cousin all finally went to my grandpa's dancing lessons called "Salon Mexico" held at Centinnial Hall at Incarnate Word. My friend, Genny, and I had been wanting to go for sooo long...we were always busy with school and wouldn't be able to go, so tonight we were really excited about finally being able to go. the first part of the night is lessons on a certain dance, this night happened to be Cumbia, for one hour, then the next two hours there's a dance and you show off what you just learned. We started out just learning how to move in the right rhythm and to shake your hips...but i was pretty much already familiar with that part ;). Right away when the instructor said for the guys to go find a partner my sister was snatched up by a nice looking guy and so Genny and I were left looking but not for long because then Genny was snatched up as well. I was then left for a little while longer until finally i would get a partner...and that was how most of the evening went, most guys went for my sister and Genny (...oh and i know i didn't specify before but the majority of these guys are older men, there were a few exceptions) My sister, the one who didn't even want to come in the first place was never at her seat at the beginning of the night and when she was it wasn't for long because soon enough someone would be asking her to go with them on the dance floor. Oh and another thing, once the open dance started, they played all different types of dances and so when guys asked us we had to learn quickly while we were out there..and for the most part we learned a lot of new dances along with the Cumbia. The most amazing part of the night was when this one guy asked me to dance and right away you could tell he was a good dancer...he could really move! He kept getting after me for not trusting him to do the leading and showing me how much easier it was when i allowed him to lead and felt what he was doing...and let me tell you, it was pretty nice, i felt like i was really dancing with him..it felt more free. He even had me close my eyes when doing a certain turn so i would just feel it and have him lead me through it with the music. We danced two spanishy dances in a row, the second one was a cha cha to Carlos Santanna....and they were the best dances i've ever had. I've never danced with a guy before, so tonight was my first night and i think by far he is the best dancer out of them all...He wasn't bad looking at all. his name is Juan and he reminded me so much of of the guy in dirty dancing...especially the way he taught me how to move and just feel the music through him. It was....amazing! He was understanding in how i didn't really know some of the steps, but that didn't really matter because once he made me see how much easier it was when i just went with him..how much smoother we were, he was making me look pretty good! I noticed it a lot more once i danced with other guys who weren't as forceful or in charge...i would get lost in the moves because they wouln't be exactly clear in what they wanted. Overall this night was extremely amazing and I can't wait to go again and maybe my look a like dirty dancing partner will be there again!
This was great dancing practice and now i'm even more excited to go to prom and dance some more...i just love to dance! given, i know the guys at our school aren't going to be like Juan(especially since he's in his later twenties we decided, but that ok, he's still a lot of fun to dance with) but if any of them surprise me i'll be ready!
