ISO new camera

My lack of functional camera is growing frustrating. I'm torn, though--should I wait and save up for the camera I really want (a Canon G10 or G12, which I think hits a nice sweet spot of having lots of manual controls and good image quality while still being portable enough that I'll have it with me when I want a camera) or should I buy a sub-$100 ( Read more... )

::nods:: The department has G10s to loan out to students doing fieldwork, so my fondness for that line is based on several weeks in the field with the G10 never leaving its place around my neck. I suppose fieldwork is probably the best argument for a G10/12 (the G10 is so good that a used one is barely less expensive than a new G12) since that's a situation where picture quality is important but SLRs are often inconvenient. On the other hand, I can always just borrow from the department again.

On the third hand: Micro Four Thirds cameras are almost as portable as the G series and getting to be about the same in price, too. So many OPTIONS.
