I actually agree on FFX and story. It was the first Final Fantasy I played (I know, I know, I'm a noob) and even now that I've played most of the rest, it still stands out as the one with the most coherent and satisfying plot.
Nggggh FFX's plot just flowed so beautifully from beginning to end. It was the first RPG I had ever played that successfully weaved its character development into the narrative rather than either taking a break from the plot for character-relevant sidequest or centering whole sections of the plot around certain characters before moving on. Not that the old style is bad, but at the time I remember FFX being a breath of fresh air. I mean, it sold everyone on really silly concepts like Tidus being a dream and made me love Wakka even though he was racist at the beginning of the game.
(don't worry, my first Final Fantasy was VII, which is apparently the greatest shame a gamer can experience).
I may or may not have had a small hope that they both sort of fuck off together and be peaceniks on the run during Cataclysm once I heard that Thrall wasn't doing to be Warchief anymore. *sigh* No such luck.
Although it wasn't as cruel a revelation as Cairne's death after Metzen showed everyone that picture of Thrall and Cairne saving orphans together at Blizzcon last year. dkjghdkjghf
Regarding Thrall and Jaina, I have always agreed with you. I haven't even gotten to Northrend yet (too broke to keep playing at the moment, upset at the privacy fail a couple months back to boot), but the impression I was getting of Jaina's character I wasn't too pleased with from what I'd previously known of her.
Yeaaaah. She suffers serious character decay in Icecrown that's a little hard to explain if you haven't witnessed it. She like, is basically sobbing on every floor of the damn raid and it gets a little distracting.
A lot of people theorize that the writers have been "softening" Jaina and making her love for Arthas more tragic in order to set up some kind of dichotomous romance between her and Varian.
I dunno. Maybe I'm being unfair, but I'm this weird creature often referred to as "The Deadly Feminist Extremist" so I get a little irked when female characters are given the short end of the stick and have their original personalities manipulated for the sake of being shoved into a romance. I almost hope it's just that they fucked up with her because they can't write female characters. :P
I remember seeing commercials for Heart of Darkness as a kid, and being intrigued by them but always forgetting the title. For a while I assumed it was either Oddworld or something along the lines of Heart of Darkness. God bless the internet for having confirmed this mystery to me.
