NYS Cigarette Tax Hike

All today I've heard a lot of people bitching about the hike on taxes on cigarettes in NYS.And all day, it's been pissing me the fuck off. I mean, I kept my mouth shut all day whenever someone mentioned it. I didn't go off on a rant, despite how much I wanted to, because I didn't want to deal with the drama, and I didn't want to argue at a wall

I don't want to be stand-offish but what bothers me about this isn't even the price or everyone saying 'well it's bad for you anyway', it's not allowing people to choose for themselves, it's taking the decision out of their hands to harm or help themselves, which is a basic right I think we should have :/

I totally agree. My boyfriend's mom smoked when she was pregnant with him, because at the time they didn't publicize just how serious the health risks were - turns out the fact that his entire bone structure and most of his organs are fucked up and stressed badly is probably because of that.

(On the other hand, my niece Ashley smoked while she was pregnant, and her daughter Ryley is the sweetest, healthiest, most adorable baby I've ever ever seen, so I guess that means that it doesn't ALWAYS effect the fetus badly)
