To make this weirdly specific in terms of timeframe, I'm updating right while Bon Iver is on Saturday Night Live. I never in real life talk about liking Bon Iver because I don't ever want to say Bon Iver out loud. Like, there is no way for me to not feel like an asshole doing that. Either you pronounce it correctly and you're asshole, or you ( Read more... )

Well, I'd imagine raising a kid in NYC would be hard. I mean it's hard everywhere and there's options, but the two people I know that did that in a smaller major city had a rough enough time of it. I think it's just more expensive/competitive and that takes one more toll on everyone. But I'm also a chicken when it comes to living in cities and while I'd like to do it for a little while, I don't think I could ever make it permanent. Unless it was abroad, I could force myself to do that for a while just for bragging rights. And accents. But, in general, cities make me nervous and I like the ten minute buffer for wherever I live so I don't have to feel unsafe walking home or worried about moving my car the next morning. I do miss parallel parking, though. So basically, it's not just you, even though NYC is allegedly The Coolest, I don't think I could be away from my family/friends/comforts of the suburbs for that long and considering a baby's options wouldn't even be part of my stress ( ... )

I don't know if you want, like, thoughts about having kids in New York at all, but I've lived here my entire life (in a ridiculously small apartment that is not designed to hold 4 people who really like to buy books, three of whom are at least 5'8") and this is something that I am actually qualified to give advice on? Which is to say: overall, it has been excellent and I love living here. Comparing to my many cousins in the suburbs, my brother and I have had a lot more freedom because we can. We can ride the subway by ourselves and our parents aren't driving us everywhere, plus we're really good at walking long distances. I can go to museums by myself, or the bookstore, or go grocery shopping on the way home from school, it's awesome ( ... )

Ahem. You could live in HOBOKEN with all the hip young parents and then take that nightmare train, the PATH, to New York! But then you would live in New Jersey and commute into the city and that pretty much ruined NYC for me for about two entire years. Ugh. UGHHHHH. are you actually looking for something new or just imagining the alternatives?

JAMIE FOR REALS you/Flynn and my little cousin are The Kids Who Made Me Like Very Young Kids and does she need a shirt with a shark on it because I saw one that's cute and shark. Is there really such a thing as too soon for influencing a future patronus?

THIS BABY. Our babies really like standing up! Babies, weird things. Unless it's just the two of them showing how similar they are, Leslie-and-Ann style. And I would be interested to know what that doctor guy told you about making baby sleep through the night, though Marianne is pretty much there already. Also I love that constellation PJ, it is marvelous! AS ARE YOU
