kathy's been the victim of identity theft which is a real pain in the ass. she found out about it cause her bank (Chase, which has sucked balls through all of this) told her tht they were going to be closing her account because she had overdraft fees in a bank account that isn't hers in another state. apparently, someone took her social security ( Read more... )

I'm so sorry... that's usually a huge mess to clean up. Hopefully it will stop there. We deal with this kind of thing a lot at my job... have her call any credit card companies she may have to put a fraud alert on their system - they'll watch for unusual activity on her cards (like out of state, or large transactions).

yup, she's done that. she's at the stage now where she just got confirmation letters from the social security office to give to the credit bureaus and banks involved. and the beat goes on... :\
