Prodigal Son 1x13

Non-spoiler: I loved this episode. Please note the squee tag. Critical discussion of ideas is welcome. Just please no, "I hated it and here's why in great detail.

The tone of this episode was just loopy fun without letting go of the devastation of the last two episodes. I'm genuinely impressed.

On a similar note, I love Gil's not-infrequent, "This idea/situation is totally fucked up. Let's do it." I imagine that anyone who has dealt with Malcolm for any length of time has to develop that kind of work-with-what-you-have strategy.

The family dynamics, with Jessica and Ainsley, made me very happy. Jessica walks, and often crosses, a very fine line between being overbearing and outright controlling, but she loves her kids, and her kids love her.

Finally, I expected Martin to deny that he planned to kill Malcolm, and while it seems to be set up as a "which psychopath do you believe," I would absolutely buy that Martin told John that he planned to kill Malcolm while having other plans himself (perhaps the very thing that almost happened: that Malcolm would kill John). I'll be curious to see how it plays out.

Man, I really hope this show gets renewed. I haven't been quite as intensely into a show in a while.
