SIngular they and verb agreement
I've been defaulting to the "singular they" (rather than any variant of "she or he") in situations where gender is unknown for a while now. I also know that it's only a matter of time before I get a student who prefers "they/them," and I want to be ready to respect that ( Read more... ) -

Only I could get into an argument about the use of "they" as singular when the antecedent is of unclear gender* on Dear Abby's website.
