I have a guess about this result - that it's much less about gender differences and much more about privilege. From looking at both articles, I didn't see any mention of race in the article on chess, and there was only minimal mention of race in the 2nd article, and that was to mention that this specifically seemed to be an issue with white men. Once again, we see that people who grow up in a socially privileged position automatically assume they are more likely to win various gambles than people who don't.
