human rights are for girls

(warning for scattered political thoughts ahead)

I am angry.  I am spitting mad right now.

I just read this this short list of attacks on women's rights and women's health.  And yeah, I've been vaguely aware of it all going on, but seeing them lined up like this (and this doesn't even cover everything--) begs the question: what. the. fuck.

Because it ( Read more... )

This is basically a perfect post.

What really bothers me - and I'm sorry if I'm going off on a bit of a tangent but it seems like my entire life is politics these days because I'm so worried about it - is that there seem to be no options for women. People want to outlaw birth control, so a woman gets pregnant (because OUTLAWING THAT ISN'T GOING TO STOP SEX I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT THESE PEOPLE DON'T GET). She can't have an abortion, so let's hope she doesn't get one done in an unsafe manner and die - she has the child that she didn't want. And then the government won't help her out to raise that child that she didn't want that she had because she wasn't allowed birth control.

I just. dkiajg;wriohgwe;io <-- basically my feelings. Also: Now, in Georgia, there's a bill going around that wants to make women carry stillborn fetuses to full term because "cows and pigs do it", so why shouldn't women?

I'M SORRY THIS COMMENT WAS SO LONG but um yes I agree with everything and thank goodness I can vote this year.

YES BASICALLY, THIS. THANK YOU. I hate that we've suddenly decided to have the same argument we had in, like, the 1920s again in the 21st century. I hate that people are generalizing and equating birth control with sexually promiscuity. I hate that people are suddenly shaming women who are sexually active but don't want children. I hate that the people who are spreading this rhetoric around are getting so much attention. I hate that people apparently have no idea what birth control can do medically that has nothing to do with sex (see: controlling irregular periods, ovarian cysts, other problems) I hate that society is deciding to up and tell me, tell all women that they have a societal and biological imperative to bear a child as it were somehow necessary and can only have sex for the purpose of bearing a child.

And, ngl, the thing that gets me most of all is that I feel threatened and intimidated by the possibility that I might have to move to a state with a mandatory transvaginal ultrasound policy, or that my state might adopt ( ... )
