Away
I should’ve brought a canvas and my father’s oils to the station to paint the world. Past the swirls of storms Earth’s a stew of color: the oceans swabs of Prussian Blue, the mountain crags scrapes of Van Dyke Brown, the deserts a mixture of Cadmium Orange and Yellow Ochre, the forests dabs of Sap Green.
I’d paint wet-on-wet, unconcerned with the mess or mistakes, but even with a million hues no scheme could capture the world’s blush. All my life I’d looked away to the stars, Titanium White on Midnight Black, and missed the ground.
I see it now.
