Mending Fences
The first hops over, the second thuds onto the other side, and the third sheep-he’s sooty dark-leaps too steep and careens into the fence. The planks splinter and the poor guy bleats among the broken remains. The others waiting baa at the disruption.
I roll over, plump my pillow, and sweep away the mess in my imagination. I build a new, lower fence. I wish it’d be as easy to mend fences with David; undoubtedly he sees me as the black sheep: disreputable, undesirable, shameful.
Sighing, I chivy the sheep back into line. One. Two.
He clears it!
