In the hospital mirror I see soldier and spy.
I know the heat of the desert, the afterimage of friendly fire, the stench of my burning flesh, the echoes of Tora Bora’s caves, and the tang of enemy blood. Protector, yet killer. I know the steel of handcuffs, the expression of friends’ disbelief, the exhaust of a China bound boat, the conversation of bugs, and the vinegar of lies. Traitor, yet hero.
I touch, see, smell, hear, and taste their memories, but I’m neither man. Today I redefine Colby Granger-a third person-a reflection of the best of both.
