Detroit Metal City is an awesome movie. Period.
I have not seen the anime series but I think the movie adaptation was definitely interesting. So interesting that I watched it twice (and this doesn't happen very often with Japanese movies unless I think they're really, really good)
Detroit Metal City tells about Negishi Souichi (Matsuyama Ken'ichi) who dreams of becoming a fashionable musician, doing fashionable pop music, and lives in a fashionable apartment. He wants to instil dreams in those who enjoy listening to his music because, according to his motto: "No music, no dream". Well, Negishi got what he wanted. Sort of. He got to be a musician and he definitely managed to inspire his fans to have dreams of their own. Except, instead of doing fashionable pop music like he intended, he ended up becoming a vocal lead for a death metal band called --surprise, surprise-- Detroit Metal City. To make matters worse, the girl Negishi had a crush on during college (he still has a crush on her, actually), Aikawa Yuri (Kato Rosa) expressed much distaste in death metal when they bumped into each other at a CD store after years they had parted ways after graduation. He was planning on telling her the truth (about how he's the vocalist of that particular band) until Yuri said how she was disgusted with such music.
My comments about this movie:
♣ If I have to rate this movie, I would rate it 4.5/5 because the subtle romance and comedy in this movie are quite balanced.
♣ I think MatsuKen portrayed his roles as both Negishi and Krauser really well; he was able to distinct the difference characteristics of both roles through his acting skills. And Negishi is so cuuuuuuteeee!! The peculiar way he walks is cute as well; it's hard to resist.
♣ I love how the movie kicks off with a song that resembles something like The Beatles' music.
♣ This movie has a great line-up for the casts, imho. Aside from Kato Rosa and Matsuyama Kenichi, there's also that
guy who played the silver-haired Yokoya in the first season of Liar Game,
one of Megadeth's band member who appeared in the first episode of the second season of The Quiz Show,
the guy who played Ucchie in Kisarazu Cat's Eye and also that yanki big bro in Atashinchi no Danshi. Minami,
the one who played as the big-eater in Yukan Club, made an appearance in this movie as well; as a vocalist for a punk band, alongside Kimura Kaela.
♣ I would definitely watch this for the 3rd time when I get the time or after I'm done watching other videos I had been downloading for the past 2 weeks.
♣ What I have learned from this movie is that: dreams can come in many forms. Sometimes, the things that we wish for might not be suitable for us, so God gives us a different opportunity instead. It's up to us to look at the opportunity in a different angle and expand our skills or make full use of the opportunity given. 'Cuz, for all you know, we might have a knack for it and may not realise that we actually have some hidden skills that we never knew we had.
♣ I think this is interesting enough to watch if there's nothing worth your attention on TV during the weekends. I highly recommend this to you! :D

P/S: Recently, I've been addicted to the piano rendition of some of Arashi's songs. My faves are "truth" and "Love So Sweet". :D
