Believe it or not, I've actually reached the final semester of my studies. 3-and-a-half years of blood, sweat, and tears as a college student is actually coming to an end. That is precisely the reason I decided to participate in a campus event for the first and the last time.
But that's beside the point of this post.
You see, throughout my studies, not even once have I participated in any events organised by my campus. So, thinking that it IS my final semester and all, I decided to participate in a campus event for the first and the final time as a college student. You know, for memories' sake. Hence, I decided to join a play, when my classmates from Cross-Cultural Communication recruited me to play the role of the college lecturer.
The rehearsals are fun and everything and I get along great with other casts. The real deal is tomorrow evening, and we had a full rehearsal today.
Except... it wasn't exactly a full rehearsal when ours got cut off halfway through.
The Student Council was present to view each performances that are going to be presented tomorrow. Aaaaand... let's just say that the committee was far from being impressed with our play. If anything, they had no idea what was going on and demanded that we reduce the scenes, because it was too long for a rather boring play. Reluctantly, the directors, which also happen to be my classmates/juniors, had to reduce the scenes and exclude some of the casts. Originally, we had 12 scenes to present, but the council demanded that we cut it short to just 5 scenes.
The directors called us for an emergency meeting of course, after the interrupted rehearsal ended. She had to break the news that the scenes were going to be reduced to 5 scenes. My brother and I, on the other hand, were still shocked by what happened. I, for one, felt a bit sad because they thought our play was lousy.
But to be honest, it was to be expected. Throughout our rehearsal earlier, I noticed that the audience was pretty bored and some of them were shaking their heads; signalling what seemed to be, "This is pretty hopeless." So yeah... it was pretty discouraging but I had to deliver my lines until the rehearsal was interrupted.
*sighs* Seriously? I fear how this disaster would turn out tomorrow. Personally, after the "Powers That Be" stated their final decision and demanded that we use only 5 out of 12 scenes, I thought it would've been better to just scrap off the whole thing completely. The reception wasn't very encouraging to begin with anyway, and now that we only have 5 scenes to perform, what's the whole point of having a so-called "30-minute" play for this event anyway?
I mean, seriously, it was our first official, full rehearsal and it was the only time we had the opportunity to work with the stage lights' settings and slideshows, so OF COURSE it took more time than necessary!
And the whole excuse to interrupt our rehearsal just so we could make way for other performance teams to rehearse? That was just as lousy. Our play needed more time to ensure that the lights and everything align together with the flow of the script. But what happened today was the exact opposite of that. If anything, it resembled like a morning rush crowd.
Aiyah, I dono oredi lorr. All I can do is pray that the whole thing would run decently tomorrow.
I pray that may everything turn out okay tomorrow.
