Pop Tarts, indeed.

So I was listening to the radio, and almost didn't believe what I was hearing.

Apparently, Pop-Tarts is sponsoring American Idol.

Just because I wanted to make sure I wasn't being completely original in my thinking, I did some searching, and apparently there have been many uses of the phrase 'pop tarts' to refer to people who make noises to please the wallets of music industry execs.

I found the schedule here.

Some news from a magazine on promotions and marketing

Last but not least, Here's some commentary from a magazine called, no I am not making this up, Jewsweek.

Seriously, what are they thinking? "Hey, no one knows what a tart is, either as a harlot, cyprian, woman of the street, nor do they know a tart as a small pie or pastry with fruit filling. Additionally, there isn't pop music in the US, only Europe and Asia has that... We call it Alternative. So what do you think about this promotional alliance? Pop tarts... How very droll!"

OK, so maybe no one actually said that, but... wtf. Hell. Handbasket.
