Minnesota, I missed my flight. Hollywood, I felt I couldn't spare the trouble and time. But now there's a Pulp Shakespeare show in the New York Fringe - the first that doesn't require me to get on a plane - and this time nobody told me, let alone invited me. It's going on right now. I found out because people are joining the wiki again. So I bought ( Read more... )

Not being told might actually be a good sign. I'm sure Tom Stoppard doesn't hear about every time someone puts on one of his plays.

Well, the rub is that this is all one company doing their show in different places. I was hoping others would put together their own, as an open derivative work should be, but instead these guys are looking to commercially license their script to all interested.

Yow. Were they building on other contributors, or is their version more or less entirely from them personally? I would imagine the former, but I can't quite tell from here.

In the absence of the energy to do much else, I will enable Wobbly Hope that this does not lead to too much reëxpropriation from the creative commons. “No takebacks!”

Yeah, the scenes on the wiki made up about half a play. They started with what we did and finished the rest on their own. They deserve to reap the rewards of doing so much of the work, but I think that ought to be limited to what they get by putting on their own show.

Still, I don't want to kick up a fuss, because I would rather this exist than not. And what would I demand? I chose not to try to profit from this idea in the first place because that's what keeps me in the clear if Tarantino or Miramax comes calling. And I wouldn't like to see the dog's breakfast that would result if they took out and rewrote our parts for the sake of not having to credit us anymore. Also, I like thinking that they still might be happy to see me when I show up on Friday.

I was going to ask if you'd heard about this. The Onion did an article on it, complete with video.

Hello there!

I saw someone using this icon in a community and crediting you, and I just wanted to tell you that I think it may well be the best userpic ever made. I hope you don't mind me using it. :)

Thanks! Yes, feel free, for as long as LJ can cling to what remains of its relevance.
