"I'm an excellent cook. Well, in theory. I've done a lot of eating."

This week I've made a bride and groom doll set, two tea cozies, two batches of soup and two batches of gingerbread. I kind of love domestic. Except when I don't. Mostly I like it for impressing people, and having really good food to eat, and making money. I think I might do a food thing some time this year before the holidays are over wherein I ( Read more... )

My father is an excellent cook. I, however, did not inherit this skill. Still, I try, so I understand your frustration at experiments that do not quite work out. Though I may not have inherited his skill, I have inherited quite a few of his recipes. Like spitini (which my brother recently found out is not really spitini), rosemary chicken, and Bill's Batter Bread. Let me know if you ever want to borrow a recipe. :)

Mmm, parsnips! They're those vegetables that look like misshapen, fat, white carrots, but they are deliciously sweet when cooked. (You do peel them first, just as you would a carrot.) I'm not generally a big fan of curried anything, but those parsnip crisps look yumelicious.

How do you roll your dough? Not to speak out of turn if your trouble is in fact a hereditary curse or something, but do you start in the middle or try to roll all the way across from one side to the other? I usually start near the edges and roll out, then go a little further in and roll out, and repeat; works all right for me. Best of luck, and may the force be with you. Happy breading.

I never have my mom's squash soup because I dun like squash, but now I will persuade her to put apples in it and try it!

Also, I agree about the gift exchange.

You know, I've had a few periods in my life (especially one about a month ago, just before I started work) where I've suddenly and without warning become domestic and made some tasty things I was proud of. It feels good! And you have seduced me with your squash, as I have an absolute lust for anything with squash or pumpkin (or sweet potatoes) - fall in new england = yum.

What's your favorite kind of thing to cook? Are you big on baking/deserts, or do you prefer main dishes?

OK, this is annoying. I didn't realize I wasn't logged in when I posted the last anonymous entry, and now i'm on my work computer and am reluctant to log in. But it's MadameDysart who is responsible for the anonymous question. :)
