Bitter philosophy

People matter. Groups do not.

People that matter to me: Nadya, Alexis, Amanda, Amber, Anna, Bekah, Deepa, Divya, Elandria, Elona, Emily, Hafidha, James, Jen, Calla, Jessi, Jessica, Kali, Kat, Keith, Lily, Malini, Miles, Oliver, Misha, Shari, Marcus, Rob, LeAnn, Justine, Christopher Sims, Julie, Yael, Michelle, Rachelle, Mark, Eva, Chewy, Kosh, Allegra, Jessie, Sara, Michael, Clayton, Sheila, Pati, Thatha, Katherine, Johnny, many, many others

Groups that don't matter to me: the entire UUA, Chaya, Kiwanis, every single committee I've ever been on, the Haas foundation, you name it.

What have I noticed? A single person, like a jewel made flesh, is far more beautiful and important than any group ever could be.

What do you get from groups? Meetings, planning, rules, committees, communication problems, maybe some recognition.

What do you get from a person? Laughter, sorrow, intrigue, ideas, thoughts. Love.

Where, then, should we spend our time and energy?
