It's always so sad to see River talking about herself so objectively.

Interstingly enough, I did not see her objectifying herself here as much as she has before. May be just because I can hear her tone, it's bemusement and slightly smiling tone. I feel like River as she grows into full adulthood will be able to smile at what others don't understand. She knows the truth you see.

Thank you for coming by to say your words- muchly appreciated!!!!

That was remarkably chilling. It feels on some level like a psychiatrist's or doctor's interview. There's no sense of time or place. The lack of physical and verbal cues creates an atmosphere out of a horror film where no judgment is passed and no remorse seems to be felt. I really liked the approach you took and that last sentence was incredible.

...no judgment is passed...

So much of what River says or does is judged and it felt like it was sometimes ok to have it just be. I had Jayne's interview in mind when this one was written and his comment to just Watch her for why he loved her was really important to how I saw this one.

Thank you for the compliment on the last line- it kicked me too. >:0)

I like the to and fro here and River's objective statements. The questions ring as very focused, as do River's answers. I like that she feels that honesty is always best. The last line is so her and is so very clear as to her abilities.

Thank you- I liked it as well. She can be so matter-of-fact and lucid that it is interesting to see how she answers tough questions while remaining focused completely on the absoluteness of her answers.

And of course she feels like she would never miss- may be wrong on that, but to this point she believes it.

*scuttles in*

I'm loving River's flow here - direct and secure in herself, no longer the fragile child girl Simon rescued from the Academy. To a certain extent, she never would have hesitated to kill, especially not for Simon, but I'm loving the feel here, her awareness of herself as a weapon who knows what she's capabale of. Self-awareness is so hard to find in a lot of situations, and it's something Jayne's gifted with - and it's something River clearly has a good hold on. She can't chnage what she is now, but she's also not going to dstroy herself in an attempt to make herself Simon's River anymore. She is what she is, and she's not ashamed of it - and it's such a fascinating thing, you know? Plus, seriously, she's so smiling here, very aware of the fact that she can kill whoever it is on the other side of that table without breaking a bead of sweat.

That was babble, wasn't it?

Gah, I blame the painkillers.

Nope, not babbling! You nailed it just as I heard her. She is not resigned to her situation, she is embracing it because it is as it is. No sense on battling that which cannot be changed. And yes, I do credit Jayne's total self-awareness with he is who he is as showing her how that can be done. Simon struck me as a boy who grew into a man trying to please his parents and society. It wasn't until they came to Serenity that the Tam's met a world that collided with theirs so fully; and yet, that world is the one that River can live in, free and full. I like that.

River's grown so much here, but she's still entirely recognizeable. Her last line has the effect of a punch in the stomach. I really appreciate this style of Rayne or River/Jayne (it's original to you, as far as I know!).

*Serious blushing!* Wow, I am beyond thrilled that you saw River and her growth. The last line just popped out, no question at all.

And, wow, I am humbled at the appreciation. I see them so clearly as River and Jayne, not a combination identification. Thank you.
