European LJ folks, take note of areas where you can protest ACTA on the 11th!

Feb 02, 2012 13:32

With an incredible showing of power and belief, over 300,000 people in 72 hours called on the European Parliament to reject the rights-threatening international copyright treaty, ACTA. We’ve shone a bright light on the countries that signed this secretly negotiated agreement - but the fight to save the internet is far from over ( Read more... )

I'm trying to pimp out anything I can on ACTA, just because it's ridiculous how they're wanting to infringe on our rights. >_< Just because some people are pirating, doesn't mean that the entirety of the internet is!

I saw something about an act that would keep tabs on all of your bank account info and what you buy online, just in case you're buying/downloading child pornography. That is just the wrong way to do things. I'm highly uncomfortable with the thought of my bank account info just being out there for some hacker to get access to, because you know they would, given time. And does the world really NEED to see how much nerdy shit I buy?

If I wasn't completely on the wrong side of the ocean, I would be out there waving a sign on the 11th.

Seriously, how many people downloaded something, and then found that they liked it so much, they went out and bought the real thing?

I used to tape record stuff off the radio in the 90's...all of the random one-hit wonders I used to like. XD And before Mystery Science Theater 3000 started to be released on VHS (and later DVD), recording it was the only way to have copies...and heck, the end credits even encouraged people to "keep circulating the tapes"!

Oh, that bank account travesty (HB 1981) is brought to you by Lamar Smith, the same fucking idiot who brought us all SOPA in the first place. (I'd apologize for the vulgarity, but I want search engines to immediately suggest "Lamar Smith" when you type in "fucking idiot".)

No apology needed. Ha, I'd like to see how uppity these people will be if any of their bank or online purchase info were to become public knowledge. Or even just known to whatever nameless, faceless robots will be policing all of this nonsense, were it to happen.
