Why I Love SGA Fandom

Jan 16, 2007 01:02

Because I think our fandom could use a post like this right now, here in no particular order are a few of the many reasons I love the SGA fandom.

Because John has sentient gay Hair

Because Rodney misses John more than Cheetos and Cappucino Muffins

Bedause of velocitygrass' unabashedly biased McKay/Sheppard episode reviews

Because of the Read more... )

Ooooh! Cool - recs to stories that I haven't read! Thanks!

I think it's great that you've made this post - more people should focus on the positives. There are so many things about SGA (both the show and the fandom) that should be loved.

:D

I'm glad that You've found stories you hadn't read before.

As for focussing on the positive, One thing I've learned in nine years of fandom is that you get out what you put in. I try to stay positive as much as possible.

I don't always succeed and I'll admit that today I made a few comments in two episode reviews of Sunday that were on the negative side. Though those were in general agreement with the original posters and not harshing anyone's squee which is the one thing I never want to do.

Though I generally keep my negativity in full privacy-locked posts where I usually discover that whatever I was feeling negative about isn't all that important in the grand scheme of things and certainly doesn't need to affect my enjoyment of fandom.

You know, I was just trundling along minding my own business when I clicked on a link from sga_newsletter because the title of this post sounded like something that would cheer me up. You have no idea how happy it makes me after the crappy day I've had - I literally pointed at the screen and shrieked "That's me!" (after snickering at 'unicorns'). Although now I feel guilty for not having written Teyla/Rodney for ages I am writing more, I promise.

Thank you!

You're very welcome and I'm glad that I could make a crappy day better.

I don't want you to feel guilty about not writing recent Teyla/Rodney. Even if Teyla/Rodney is my main line of defense against going form a Rodney OTCer into a John.Rodney OTPer.

Totally clicked as well from the newsletter because I figured it was a good cheer up :D And it totally made me smile! So you = win right now :)

Also? Because of all of the writers who write all the amazing stories about secondary characters and other people who we've only seen once or twice (Lorne/Novak! Lorne/Novak!)

(on that note, my del.icio.us has almost hit the 900 mark, I'm quite impressed with myself =P if you wanted to take a look it's under moonlite)

That's a great reason. I have fondness for Miko and if anyone ever wrote Ronon/Miko I think I would would finally have a major Ronon romantic relationship in addition to all the Ronon platonic friendships that I've recently discovered I like.

I've hadded you to my del.icio.us network. I like the organization you have for your tags. That's something I know I have to work on for my page, which is under ceteramisto. I'll probably take a closer look later this week.

You seriously had the *best* timing, so it was the nicest thing to see this morning/afternoon/wheneveritwasthatIsaw

Cool! I added you back :)

I re-organized my tags back when I had like, 250 or so - and it still took me a few days to do it - so you're at a perfect stage to kind of sort out how you want to (because I've been thinking about length tags, but at this point it would be insanity to try and backtag everything)

I've never really read any fic with Miko -- but I have my weakness for anything involving Cadman, Katie Brown, Lorne, and Novak (oh, I love Novak so - I wish they would bring her back for some episodes). (Main character-wise I have a slight a huge massive crush on Elizabeth and Torri Higginson ( ... )

I'll be redoing my del.icio.us tags after I finish cleaning up my lj memories.

Miko, Cadman and Hermiod are my favorite of the minor characters. Though I love Novak's interaction with Hermiod.

Lorne is my second favorite of the recurring characters who I categorize as not regulars but more important than one to three episode minor characters. Zelenka is my favorite in this group.

For the main characters Rodney is my favorite with John a close second. Elizabeth, I was neutral about in the first season, was annoyed with in the second season, mainly because I thought she was written rather inconsistently. However, I'm really enjoying her this season.

I love the holographic matching device fic. Mainly for the Ronon/pancake mix but the Teyla/Elizabeth is nice.

I've read OT4 fic. 30toseoul is my favorite for the OT4.

Because only once before has a fanfic ever spoken to me as strongly and as deeply and that was nine years ago

Out of curiosity, what was the other fic?

It's Rhyme or Reason by Michael Demcio. It's a Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers fic. It was the first fic I've ever read that showed me how good fanfiction could be. It's a mystery story centers on my favorite character Chip but uses the other major characters really well. Makes use of several episodes in the plot of the fic. Most of all Ivana M. Killjoy is my favorite original villian ever in fanfic. I've reread it recently it still holds up really well, especially for a fanfic written in 1997.

*hugs* we really needed something like this, what with all the hate going to TPTB.

I'm so putting this in my mems coz theres so much goodness here (some I've read and loved and squeed over at the second mention (omg Freedom's... made me want to do something I never thought Id want to do again! to do a Physics paper! and trinityofone! who I'm stalking I've friended just so I can read all the stuff she writes) OMG you missed A Farm In Iowa!! That is unacceptable! Linkies to first one here: (sorry don't know how to tag it) http://sheafrotherdon.livejournal.com/80587.html

and its so true I found SGA is more inspiring (for me) than any other fandom I've been in or visited, (I can count 5 fandoms I've thought about out side the box, I've only written in two, and SGA beats the other one by 7 posted fics (which for me is like Whoa ( ... )

*Hugs Back* The inspiration for doing this was all the posts about the casting spoilers.

After I posted, I realized all the things I'd missed and A Farm in Iowa was the most glaringly obvious omission.

For me, Babylon 5 is my favorite TV show, while SGA is my favorite fandom. Until SGA I was the lurkiest lurker ever.

Love rambles are always welcome on my lj.
