Really? REALLY!?

In this season of joy and celebration I had the pleasure to be dragged down to earth again and be reminded of how much people suck.

I think this acquaintance should become a past acquaintance. Let the anger go along with the 'friendship'. The animals are in a much better situation with you. Have some patience with them and it will sort itself out. Tbh the last thing they need is another upheaval. The one who is still skittish would go absolutely around the bend. Treat yourself and them kindly and remember, you have the better end of the deal.

"On one hand I am angry she has just thrown away her cats, but on the other hand I wouldn't want them to go back there either"

Yup!

Congrats, YOU HAVE CATS!

Wow...just wow. I don't know what to say. Just ONE kid, let alone more than one, is a much bigger economic burden than two cats. If she's having another baby? With two kids under the age of 4, she probably won't even be able to afford going to work.

I think she was just looking to get rid of her cats and instead of owning up to it when she approached you, or going to a shelter, decided to pull the "just for now" card. But what a shitty move, ugh. She should've at least given you a few bucks to help with food, vet bills, et al. That's what my stepsister did when my sister took in her cat after she had twins. Money wasn't the issue as she makes big bucks in tech, but the cat really demanded attention and she was afraid one of the babies was allergic to boot. She helped my sister with some vet bills, gave her his food and toys from home, and whatnot.

Still, what a shitty thing to do. I kinda fear for those kids after what you described.

tl:dr: Childhood acquintance doesn't have the means to keep her two cats, but apparently have the means to have another baby.

Well, you can't get on the WIC program and all the other wonderful government benefits with nothing but furbabies as dependants. (Returning said furbabies one had before first baby won't add bennies to your pocket like a second baby either.)
