Mandatory math tests for McDonald's employees

Why would any corporation want to hire cashiers who can't do simple math without the aid of a calculator? People should be given a math test before they get jobs where they have to handle money. I'm not asking for Trigonometry or Calculus, or even Algebra here. I'm talking about simple math of the "one plus one equals two" variety. Here's a ( Read more... )

the educational system in america makes me ashamed to be an american, not we're not only the fattest country in the world, we're damn near the dumbest (I don't know who's ahead of us in that one, but it's still pathetic) and I love how the whole "no child left behind act" makes it ok for kids to just coast through school, meaning that unless colleges want to go under, they have to lower their expectations, which means that the few who don't are even more competitive for those geeks like myself who love to learn and unless I have do some undergrad work at one of these primo universities, I won't ever make it to my dream school or job in Japan!! I'd be laughed out of the country!! I loathe morons, they mess everything up...there's my rant

You know, when I was in high school, my school happened to have higher test scores on average than any of the other high schools in the area (not because it was such a great school, but because the rest were even worse). Instead of taking measures to fix the problem in the other schools, they lowered the standards for graduation from my school to match what was going on in the rest of them. This resulted in me having enough credits to graduate by the middle of my junior year, making senior year completely optional...

Morons will rule this country, its already begun, and I may have to move to Canada.

I think the type of math you're looking for is called arithmetic, popularized as 'rithmatic as one of the three R's which include reading and writing, which also does not begin with an R. We're idiots.
